We close with a dominating pitcher who led her team to a PGF National Championship last weekend, but her team also was loaded with talent at every position and came up clutch when it had to…

National Club Player of the Week:

* There’s a reason Keagan Rothrock is considered the #1 pitcher in her class.

Facing the top competition in the country at the 14U level, Rothrock was perfect at times and had a near-perfect week as she led the Tennessee Mojo 04 – Fisher team to the PGF National Championship on Sunday.

The 2023 grad who is committed to Florida went 6-0 with a 0.14 ERA and in 45 innings of work only gave up one earned run while striking out 77 and giving up 13 walks.

She helped herself offensively by getting 11 hits and driving five runs, but it was her masterful pitching that drew raves from coaches, fans and opposing players as well.

Against the Central Cal Dirtdogs, Rothrock pitched a perfect game while striking out 15 in a close 2-0 win. She also pitched a one-hitter in a 6-0 victory against Oklahoma Hotshots-Yeatts in which she had 14 K’s.

Throwing a baffling riseball and a complementary change-up, Rothrock also came up big under pressure situations including an 11-inning nail-biter in which she led the Mojo to a 6-5 win after four innings of ITB ball. The pitcher had 15 K’s in that win and no-earned runs.

After Sunday’s championship 4-2 win over the AZ Storm was chosen as the Extra Inning Softball PGF 14U Tournament MVP.

Runner-Up National Players of the Week

* Pitcher Ryan Maddox (2023 LHP/OF) was outstanding for the Central Dirtdogs and after her team was shutdown 2-0 by the Mojo (see above) in the perfect game pitched by Keagan Rothrock, Maddox helped the Dirtdogs win five games in the Loser’s Bracket before being eliminated by the AZ Storm, which advanced to the championship.

Sofia Mujica had 11 RBIs at PGF for the Power Surge.

Maddox had several college coaches watching her closely and although the lefty isn’t big in stature, she pitches masterfully and was one of the most impressive players in the tournament as she pitched and hit the Dirtdogs to a Top 5 finish.

* Catcher Sofia Mujica of the Power Surge 12U team out of San Diego had a big week behind the plate and also with the stick as she led her team to the championship game.

A power hitter who hits for a high average, Mujica went 12/30 (.400) at PGF with six singles, five doubles, a home run and 13 RBIs. She finished with 26 home runs for the season.

TN Mojo-Fisher, winners of the PGF 14U Premier National Championship.

National Club Team of the Week:

* Any of the champions could have been chosen from the PGF Premier Nationals, including the Corona Angels who won 10U in a walk-off or the Birmingham Thunderbolts, who took 12U after fighting through the Loser’s Bracket, but we can’t help but pick the Mojo.

The team went 8-0 and had to deal with being the team every other competitor was gunning for.

The Josh Fisher-led team scored 58 runs in the eight wins and the pitching staff of Keagan Rothrock, Emma Langston and Taylor Hess only gave up nine runs.

The defense was outstanding led by catcher Maci Bergeron who showcased a strong arm and fearlessness in making a throw to any base at any time.

The infield defense was also superb with Taylor Pannell at third base, Mia Williams at shortstop, Jaydyn Goodwin at second and Angelee Bueno and Alexis Winters splitting time at first.

All were huge with their bats, too, as Goodwin set the table hitting .488 with 14 runs scored and five steals, Williams hit for .410 with a slugging percentage of .744 and led the team with 15 runs, 12 RBIs, five doubles and a triple and had a huge home run the title win and Pannell was clutch with everything from a home run to bunt singles while batting .394, had nine RBIs and led the team with six steals.

“Taylor had some huge hits,” added Coach Fisher, “including a home run versus the Hotshots-Premier and had an excellent event.”

The only question on this hugely talented team was if the parts could come together and go all the way to getting a trophy.

The answer: an emphatic yes.

At PGF, the offense batted .340 as a team with a .395 on-base percentage. Overall, there were 103 hits including 15 doubles and on the basepaths the Mojo went 24-of-27 in stolen bases.

And clutch… the Mojo had 26 RBIs in situations where there were two outs.

“This was a big key in us winning,” said Coach Fisher, “getting runs with two outs.”

The fielding percentage was .946 for the week and the head coach added, “Our defense was really solid all week, I’m very proud of that number.”

The only blip was the extra inning battle with a strong Firecrackers-Brashear team but after the 11-inning win, the Mojo won the final three games just giving up three runs while scoring 17 as everything clicked: pitching, offense and defense.
