East Cobb Bullets-Mayfield/Biele 2022 pitcher Olivia Cato has been described as a “fierce competitor,” but the most intriguing description of her skills as a pitcher is that she has “electric stuff.”
Cato, a self-proclaimed Ping Pong stud, was named All-State and co-Pitcher of the Year after compiling a 1.14 ERA and 222 strikeouts for Northgate High of Newman, GA, last fall and she was named to the Extra Inning Softball All-Summer Team (16U) on Wednesday after a stellar run for the Bullets this summer.
“She is an amazing teammate who always has a positive attitude,” said P/SS McKaela Walker, #14 in the 2023 Extra Elite 100. “Whenever we’re down she does anything that she can to bring us up. She is an extremely good pitcher with amazing speed and movement. My favorite pitch that she has is her riseball… it is nasty! Something that makes her unique is she hardly has an off game, she is always on.”
Cato, #52 in the 2022 Extra Elite 100, is getting recruiting attention from ACC, SEC, Big 12 and Big Ten schools. South Carolina-committed 3B/OF Natalie Heath, #64 in the 2021 Extra Elite 100, recognizes Cato’s competitiveness.
“Cato is the best in the game,” Heath said. “At her age, she is already way ahead of other people on the spectrum. She has a special gift when she steps in the circle and she doesn’t stop until the job is done. Anyone to have her on the mound is very lucky because she is the best.”
