The Beverly Bandits have one of the top organizations in the nation in club softball.
The Bandits field national level teams in every age group, but they have been especially dominant in the 16U Division. The Bandits have reached the finals of the PGF 16U Premier Nationals six of the past seven years, winning national championships four times (2013, 2016, 2017 and 2019) during that span.
The prospects look bright for the Bandits in 2020. They have four teams ranked in the top 26 of the latest Extra Elite Eighty 16U club rankings, led by Beverly Bandits DeMarini-Helbling at No. 4 in the nation.
One could say Savannah Fitzpatrick, a 2021 C/OF committed to the application process at Harvard, might be considered the brains of the operation for Bandits-Helbling.
“Everyone knows she’s smart, but it’s her toughness that sets her apart,” Kentucky-committed 2021 1B/UT Sarah Stone. “She has a can-do attitude and will do whatever it takes to help us get it done whether it’s sac bunting or hitting home runs. She is an amazing teammate, probably the nicest girl I know. She handles a pretty good pitching staff and calls her own game. Fitzy cuts no corners. She’s a straight, old-school player as my dad would say. She works hard and it shows.”
Fitzpatrick is a varsity letterman in three sports and is involved in school government at Highland High of Marengo, Ohio. Many of the players Fitzpatrick faces are playing checkers, while she is playing chess.
“The game she plays, she loves,” uncommitted 2021 P/1B Sam Booe said. “And I think that’s what her drive is. When she’s on the field, the only thing she is thinking about is possible outcomes she could have. Whether she’s up to bat or behind the plate, she is always thinking what’s gonna happen next.”
“For catching, she looks at the batter’s swing and says, “OK, if I make her throw this pitch, she could miss it because her swing isn’t long.’ She always thinking one step ahead. She is also one of the best teammates I’ve ever had on and off the field. If you need someone, she’s ALWAYS there for you.”
