One player who must have been very happy to see Coach Tony Baldwin move into the head coach position at the University of Georgia was standout 2022 infielder Tyler Ellison, who has been recruited by Baldwin for a while now and was offered, and committed, in January.
Tyler is a blue collar-type player, not flashy—just very accomplished and doing it while not calling a lot of attention to herself.
Last weekend she was at the Team 1 event in Kansas City and her club coach, Todd Mayfield, says: “Tyler was awesome all week with her great all-around play.”
That was a week after she had what her coach calls an “awesome weekend in front of her college coach with a two-run home run and a walk-off hit. Georgia (coaches) were pleased!”
Next week, Tyler will lead her talented East Cobb Bullets team to play at the Colorado Sparkler event and we wouldn’t be surprised that she does so well there too that her future SEC coaches continue to remain happy with their instate recruit.
Here’s more on Tyler who we profile in our latest Extra Star Power profile…

Coach’s Comments:
“Tyler has been with me since 12U and is one of, if not the, hardest working players on my team. She’s also a top student at her high school and is committed to Georgia; she did that by doing it the right way in the classroom and field—she doesn’t expect anyone to give her anything. Tyler is a quiet kid who leads by example and, on the field, she has very soft hands, is smooth in her movement and has excellent range. Tyler has always been the top hitter on the team and now she is the team leader in home runs as well.”
— Coach Todd Mayfield, East Cobb Bullets

Coach Mayfield tells us you committed to Georgia… walk us through how that came to be and when you were offered and committed?
I have been going to Georgia camps ever since 12U and have always loved it, so when it was time to start pursuing colleges, I knew Georgia was my No. 1. When September 1st came around, Coach Tony Baldwin [Editor’s Note: named as the Bulldogs’ head coach this week] reached out and we kept in contact. I kept sending videos and just working hard and that led to me to receiving and accepting my offer in January.
Did you have any idea Coach Lu would be retiring before it was announced?
No, however I am very happy for her. Coach Lu has had an amazing career and definitely deserves it.
What are you looking forward to most about playing at the college level?
Being able to compete at the highest level and have the opportunity to compete for a national championship.
What drives you to be the best player—and person—you can be?
I have expectations for myself and goals that I really want to achieve. That drives me to push myself and be the best person and player I can be.
You’ve had a great high school career not just in athletics, but also academics… share with us some of your favorite accomplishments:
My accomplishments over the years include:
Freshman Year
- My team won the region, making history by being the first team to bring home a region championship to Hampton High School.
- Team finished third in state.
- 1st team all-region.
Sophomore Year
- My team won the region championship for the second time.
- 2nd team all-region
Junior Year
- My team won the region championship for the third time.
- 1st team all-region
- 2nd team all-state
- Offensive MVP Award
- Set the school record for highest batting average.
Although I’m an athlete at heart, I take pride in my academics. As a freshman, I finished first in my class and as a sophomore and junior I finished second in my class.
