The Florida Gulf Coast League (FGCL) announced on Friday (Dec. 18, 2020) it will be hosting the Mexican Olympic Team prior to its competition at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Team Mexico will play a six-game series against FGCL Softball teams June 22-27, 2021, while training locally and hosting a softball camp and autograph session while in Florida.
“Team Mexico has a need for competitive games to continue their preparation towards the Olympic Games, Tokyo 2021,” said Mexican Olympic Team President Rolando Guerrero. “I enjoyed last year’s competitive series between the FGCL versus the USSSA Pride and after careful evaluation of our team needs, we decided to reach out to the FGCL.”
“We believe that these six games versus top collegiate athletes will help the Mexico Softball Olympic Team prepare to be standing on the Olympic podium. A medal in Tokyo 2021, the new journey.”
The Mexican Women’s Softball Olympic Team pre-selection roster includes: Captain Sashel Palacios (Catcher/ASU), Dallas Escobedo (Pitcher/ASU), Danielle O’Toole (Pitcher/Arizona), Sierra Hyland (Pitcher/Cal Poly), Victoria Vidales (1st Base/Texas A&M), Tatyana Forbes (OF/NCSU), Nicole Mendes (OF/Oklahoma) and other high profile professional and collegiate athletes.
