On Tuesday, Extra Inning Softball named Papillion-LaVista High (Papillion, Nebraska) High as the 2020 Fall High School Team of the Year.
Oklahoma-bound pitcher Jordy Bahl has received most of the attention during the amazing run by the powerhouse program, and deservedly so, as she is the #1 player in the 2021 Extra Elite 100.

The Monarchs won their third state championship in the past four years this fall. They went 142-4 with two undefeated seasons, four Metro championships and four District championships during the four-year run. They went 36-0 and outscored their opponents 312-11 this season.
But one of the other key members of that squad was South Dakota State-bound catcher Brooke Dumont, a four-time All-State selection who hit .531 with 12 homers, 44 RBIs and led the defense this season.
“Brooke was a very mature character for our team on and off the field,” Bahl said. “Her awareness and control over our defense was a big key to our success and chemistry, and her bat was crucial in our offense. She is a vocal leader who also leads by example and was someone that everyone felt like they could talk to. She is such a likable person that I don’t know how anyone could not get along with her.”

Dumont always delivered in the clutch for Papillion-LaVista.
“Brooke is a teammate that we could count on to get a hit or score a run,” South Dakota State-bound Mia Jarecki said. “Every time she would get up to bat, I was always positive she could help the team in any way. She is a great leader and always helped the team both in the field and up to bat.”
I am very excited to announce my commitment to South Dakota State University to continue my academic and softball career! I would like to thank my parents and my coaches for helping me along this journey. Go Jacks!💙💛 pic.twitter.com/dopLwKy5bn

Can you talk about your team’s journey to the championship this fall?
With COVID being a deciding factor on playing a season or not, we made sure to take each game one at a time, playing each like it might be the last. We had a goal to complete a second consecutive season undefeated while focusing on winning another championship. We knew we were going to have a target on our backs this season and we knew that we would get our opponents best efforts trying to end our streak. During each game, we focused on scoring early and shutting the other team down.
