Alaina Wyrick, Class of 2024, has committed to Elon University to continue her academic and athletic career. The middle-infielder and outfielder for the Lady Dukes National-Lamar team will join the Phoenixes in the fall of next year.
Alaina’s journey to Elon first began two years ago. In the first of many visits she was able to take to the beautiful campus, located in Elon, North Carolina, she describes feeling an immediate connection to the team, the coaches, and the school at large.
“It was the fall of my sophomore year. The camp was high energy and the players were so welcoming,” Alaina shared of this experience. “After the camp ended, I was talking to Coach Bocock and she mentioned how much the players liked me and that they were excited for me to come to their next camp. This had made the experience super special.”
From then on, Alaina continued to attend Elon’s camps and stay in touch with the program. Pretty soon, the university had risen to be a top school on her list approaching September 1st of last year.
When that fateful day finally arrived, she received emails from several schools, but was most excited when she received a text that evening from Coach Bocock.
“We had a call and I remember hanging up and being so excited to get on campus.”
Alaina’s and her family scheduled a visit to Elon during fall break, during which she was able to tour the campus, watch the team practice, and learn about the university’s academic offerings.
“I left the visit feeling like I could see myself there academically and athletically,” Alaina said, reflecting on the pivotal experience. “Two days later when I got home, I called Coach Bo and the assistant coaches and told them that I would love to be a Phoenix and verbally accepted their offer to play at Elon.”

Alaina’s club team coach, Matt Kiemeyer, describes her as someone who is “unbelievably nice, completely dedicated to the game, and a true coach’s dream.”
Alaina’s commitment to excellence both on the field and in the classroom will be in good company when she joins the Phoenixes next year, as the team recently reported ranking 18th in team cumulative GPA across all Division I schools nationwide.
Congratulations, Alaina, and best of luck as you embark on this new chapter.
