I Committed: Hayden Kyne to Fight for the Irish at Notre Dame

Hayden Kyne joins the Fighting Irish to compete in the ACC.

Hayden Kyne was offered to play for The University of Notre Dame on September 1st . She didn’t need time to think about it and committed before the day’s end.

The catcher and third baseman for the Lady Magic—Walling fell in love with Notre Dame’s softball program and campus and was extremely impressed with the university’s rich academic and athletic history.

She first visited the school in the summer of 2021 for a camp.

“I loved the energy of the coaching staff,” Hayden reflects. “I realized that Notre Dame was somewhere I would love go to college. Over the next two years, I attended 27 camps at 17 different colleges, and over that time I narrowed down my favorites to three schools.”

At the Zoom into June tournament this summer, Hayden noticed Notre Dame’s coaching staff sitting in the stands. She felt she had performed very well that weekend and was eager to find out if they noticed her.

Hayden spent plenty of time at camps and tournaments getting to know the coaching staff.

She was able to reconnect with Coach Deanna Gumpf at the Sparkler tournament and got to know the staff more in depth. Hayden then asked her parents if she could attend a camp at the school, to which they happily obliged.

“When I stepped foot on campus I knew it was home,” she shared. “Everything about their campus is perfect, especially Melissa Cook Stadium.”

With this glowing response, it is no surprise that Hayden cried happy tears after receiving the offer just hours after the recruiting process officially opened.

“On September 1, I was nervous when I got a zoom call from Coach Gumpf and her staff. We spoke for a few minutes before Coach asked me to join her team. I teared up instantly and accepted. I am so excited to be part of the Fighting Irish family.”

Hayden will join the program in the fall of next year. At Notre Dame, she plans to study pre-med and will wear #7 on the field.
