Jenna Madison is the comeback kid.
Undergoing ACL surgery on January 6th 2022, the future Grand Canyon University commit was back on the field with her high school team exactly 13 weeks later.
It was not expected that the utility player would make such a quick recovery, but instead of accepting her hiatus from the game, this doubt motivated Jenna to make the road back to playing as quick as possible.
“I worked so hard to get back with my team for regionals and we won. Next came the state tournament, and we won the 4A State title. It was so exciting. Then on to summer ball,” recalled the utility player for Bolts 16U Premier-Kaplan. “With my Bolts family we were able to finish 3rd in PGF Premier.”
Prior to her injury, her club coach, Justin Kaplan, revealed that she had been at the top of many school’s lists, but that many of these coaches backed off, as she wasn’t able to compete and her future was uncertain.
“It would have been very easy for a kid to throw in the towel or to get down if faced with this obstacle,” commented Kaplan. “Jenna was probably one of the top shortstops in her class before getting injured. She managed to come back incredibly fast and overcome the craziness of things not going exactly how you wanted in the recruitment process. In the end, she managed to come out on the right side, which is a testament to her resilience and dedication as a player and a person.”
Following this tremendous recovery story and team success, Jenna patiently awaited for the famed September 1st to arrive, as she prepared to take the next step in her softball career.
“I got calls and texts throughout the morning. After talking with my family and coaches, I decided to commit to Grand Canyon University and am beyond excited to continue playing with the Antelopes next year.”
Following her impressive commitment, Jenna finished her junior season with 159 put-outs at shortstop, batted .427, 87 RBIs, 80 runs scored, and 21 home runs—breaking the school’s previously held record. The team also broke the school’s record for number of wins in a season, which Jenna regarded as an amazing accolade.
She was named the National High School Player of the Week, ranked #15 nationally and #4 nationally as an infielder.
During her junior year club season, the Bolts-Kaplan team secured 3rd in PGF Premier this summer, and won the “Show Me the Money” event put on by PGF in Gainesville, Florida.
“We are winning it next summer,” Jenna said, reflecting on the back-to-back 3rd-place finishes of the team.
As Jenna embarks on her senior season, she is both saddened by the finality of it and hungry for the championship title at both state and national levels.
“I just want to thank all of my coaches for believing in me and pushing me to be the best that I can be,” shared Jenna. “I also want to thank Mr. (Brentt) Eads (of Extra Inning Softball) for all that you do for all of us girls. Without you reporting your content, we may not even be recognized by any college coaches, so thank you.”
Jenna will join the Grand Canyon University Antelopes on the field in the fall of 2024.
