CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia head softball coach Joanna Hardin announced the 2024 softball schedule on Friday (Dec. 8) with a slate that features 20 home games, including the Rawlings Classic at Palmer Park and four home series in ACC play.
Virginia is on the road for back-to-back weekends top open the season, making appearances at tournaments hosted by South Carolina (Feb. 9-11) and Alabama (Feb. 16-18). At South Carolina, the Cavaliers will face UNCG twice, Jacksonville State and close the tournament with a pair of games against the hosting Gamecocks. Virginia will then face Southern Indiana twice, Alabama twice and St. Thomas in the weekend tournament at Alabama.
The Cavaliers then return home to host the Rawlings Classic at Palmer Park (Feb. 23-25) with Delaware, Lehigh and Iowa State coming to Charlottesville.
Other non-conference action at home includes contests against Rutgers (March 19), Liberty (April 9) and Virginia Tech (April 16). Virginia will go on the road in non-conference play for a doubleheader at Radford (Feb. 27) and games at Longwood (March 5), Maryland (March 12), Liberty (March 26), JMU (March 27), Villanova (March 29-30) and Virginia Tech (April 23).
The Cavaliers will host four series in ACC play: Boston College (March 1-3), Syracuse (March 15-17), Clemson (March 22-24) and NC State (April 12-14). Virginia will go on the road for ACC series at North Carolina (March 8-10), Notre Dame (April 5-7), Duke (April 19-21) and Georgia Tech (April 26-28).
The ACC Championships will be hosted by Duke (May 8-11).
NOTES ON THE SCHEDULE
- Virginia will play 19 games against teams that made the 2023 NCAA Tournament with 14 of those games coming on the road or in neutral-site contests.
- The schedule features two first-time opponents for the Hoos in St. Thomas (MN) and Southern Indiana.
- The Cavaliers face Duke for the first time since the 2021 season and NC State for the first time since 2022.
- Virginia will not face Florida State, Louisville, Pittsburgh or Virginia Tech in ACC play.
- The midweek games against the Hokies are non-conference matchups and will not count in the ACC standings.
