DENTON, Texas – The North Texas softball team and head coach Rodney DeLong announced the program’s 2024 schedule and UNT will host 26 home contests and two tournaments at Lovelace Stadium.
The Mean Green will play nine teams that earned NCAA tournament bids last season, including home games against Oklahoma State on April 3 at 6 p.m. and Texas A&M on April 17 at 6 p.m. North Texas opens its 57-game slate at the Candrea Classic in Tucson, Ariz. on Feb. 9 versus Utah Tech at 10 a.m. CT before a meeting with hosts Arizona at 5 p.m. CT.
Lovelace Stadium will host the Tracey Beard College Classic on Feb. 16-18 and UNT Invite on Feb. 23-25 for a total of 21 games. The pair of home tournaments will feature matchups against Minnesota, Missouri and Texas Tech.
DeLong will lead his team to Auburn for the Jane B. Moore Memorial on March 1-3 for a pair of games against the Tigers and two versus NCAA Super Regional Finalists Northwestern. North Texas will travel to Texas A&M on March 6 for the away leg of a home-and-home series with the Aggies.
UNT begins its first season as members of the American Athletic Conference with a 27-game league slate. The Mean Green open its conference schedule at home against East Carolina on March 8-10 and finish at Charlotte on May 3-5. The American will host its conference championship tournament on May 8-11 in Wichita, Kan.
North Texas recorded its third consecutive 35-win season last year and finished in the finals of the Conference USA Championship. The Mean Green return 16 letter winners and nine starters, including all-conference selections Kailey Gamble (Oklahoma City, Okla.), Cierra Simon (Crockett, Texas), Kalei Christensen (McKinney, Texas), Mikayla Smith (Moore, Okla.), McKenzie Wagoner (Newcastle, Okla.) and Tatum Sparks (Shawnee, Okla.). DeLong and his staff added three freshmen and three transfers, including all-CUSA performer Kat Ibarra (Katy, Texas), to the roster.
