As of yesterday (Sunday, Sept. 1, 2019), the current juniors in high school can be contacted by college coaches and that was the case for 2021 Extra Elite 100 infielder/outfielder Abby Newman, who heard from several programs by phone calls and also by texts.

She has also blogged for us before: check out her excellent perspective on “Relationships and Role Models in Softball… They Matter!” and is coming off a successful summer season playing with Fury Platinum-Bloomer/Higdon team.
Abby was recruited to join Fury Platinum by Josh Bloomer, the former Louisville Male High School coach, prior to him moving to Duke to become an assistant coach.
She stayed with the team throughout the summer after he left and played in top competition tournaments including the Scenic City Showcase in Chattanooga, Tennessee; the PGF Team 1 Elite Showcase in Kansas City; the DeMarini Invitational Showcase in Chicago; Colorado Fireworks and PGF Nationals in Huntington Beach, California.
The outstanding hitting and fielder says she is looking forward to her fall season as she moves into the 18U age group and will be playing with the Louisville Sluggers 18U team coached by Jim Huecker.
“I definitely grew as a player this summer, hitting against top pitchers in the country, in the 16u age division,” she told Extra Inning Softball.
Newman’s stats reflect her success as she hit .500+ in multiple tournaments including a weekend high of .632 in the PGF Midwest Team 1 Elite Showcase
“Although I am proud of my individual summer stats, I know the game and my roles as a player is to always help my team out and contribute,” she adds, “whether it’s a sacrifice hit or bunt and knowing how to play and utilize my strengths offensively or defensively in the field.”
