It’s a new day and the start of a new month.
For many Class of 2022 softball players, it’s also the beginning of a new era in their life: being a recruited student-athlete.
Sept. 1 is the first day college coaches can contact juniors and starting at midnight this morning, dozens—if not hundreds—of talented players got the call, email and/or text they were hoping would come.
We will have reports this week from several 2022’s on how Sept. 1 went for them. If you would like to share with us how your initial contact day went, email: [email protected]
In some cases, players who were committed still got an early (or late) call.
Sam Roe, a catcher with the Birmingham Thunderbolts 04 team and ranked as the #1 player in the 2022 Extra Elite 100, had long ago committed to Florida, but that didn’t stop Gators Head Coach Tim Walton from still “showing the love:”

For those uncommitted, some top players did get called in the first minutes of the contact period.
One 2022 Extra Elite 100 player had 14 contacts within the first 15 minutes after the stroke of midnight, most asking to set up Zoom calls. As of 1 am this morning, she was still getting heavy interest, and was “going full-steam with calls and messages.”
