Recruiting News: “I Committed”… How to Share Your Verbals Like These Standouts Did!

We went to Kohl’s last night and heard Christmas music being piped through the store… and Costco and other places have already got their XMAS trees, decorations, gifts, etc.

Tis the Season, apparently, and we’re still three weeks from Halloween!

For us in the softball world, the phrase “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” has a different meaning for many in the Classes of 2021 and 2022: it’s verbal commit season!

Did you know that for players who commit—and their happy, supportive families and/or coaches—there’s an easy way to let us at Extra Inning Softball know and share the exciting news?

We have a Contact Us tab on the front page and the second option down is an I Committed form so the information can be forwarded to us! You can also email photos to: [email protected].

Tell us the story of the recruiting process and the happy way it ended! We may even publish it on our site like those below we recently received…

My name is Katelyn Caneda and I’m from Cerritos, California. I have been playing softball since I was age 5.

Funny story, I cried when my dad signed me up and at the first practice. Throughout the years, softball began to grow on me. Win or lose, I loved being on the field and I found something I was good at so I stuck with it. I’ve been part of the Corona Angels since I was 10 and was actually on the very first Angels 10u team coached by Ondra Carter.

Katelyn Caneda  is joining a friend in the Big Ten!

I played for Coach Ondra up until first year 14s. In second year 14s, I played for Marty and in first year 16s I played for his daughter, Coach Dena Tyson. Now I’m on Marty’s 18s team.

I bat on the left side and throw right-handed. Growing up, I always moved around the field and considered myself a utility player. From outfield to infield, I love being on different parts of the field and I don’t mind where I play. If a coach needs me somewhere, I’ll play it without question. I don’t catch anymore in travel, but sometimes I do for high school.

For as long as I can remember, it has always been my dream to play college softball at an elite level and now I get to fulfill that dream at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, alongside my long-time friend and teammate, Dakota Carter!

I’ve never been on campus in person yet, but hopefully I will be able to soon. I chose Nebraska because I had a gut feeling that told me it was not only the right school, but the PERFECT school for me. My heart was saying Nebraska and I followed it. Coach Revelle, Coach Miller, and Coach Sippel are amazing individuals and I can’t wait to play for them. GO BIG RED!!

I am very excited to announce that I have committed to MTSU–D1 school. I was born and raised in Murfreesboro, TN and MTSU has always been at top of my list. I am a natural left-handed triple threat slapper. I play outfield and I play all 3 positions in outfield.

My travel coach, Josh Henson, has me train in all positions so that I am able to help my team out where ever needed. He has all of our outfield do this and the other outfielders have amazing talent!

This past summer our team had a VERY successful week at the JO cup in Spartanburg SC and Coach Josh had me play all bracket games in Centerfield. I was very happy to assist my team out in that way and was able to make a few diving catches and have some very good at bats.

I am thankful to God for everything and for my family , friends, coaches and teammates as they have helped me be a better person on and off the field. I am excited for my Junior year at Siegel High School and I pray our year is not cut short like it was my Soph. year due to COVID.

I am a 4.0 student and have maintained that since 6th grade as my grades are VERY important to me. I am very thankful for this opportunity to commit to MTSU.

I committed here because the coaches made it feel like home. It is a very high academic and highly competitive softball school too, which is exactly what I was looking for!

— 2022 C Kasey Markusic, Orland Park A’s, committed to Providence College

After going on numerous college visits I went to FIU and fell in love with the campus and the coaching staff! I immediately knew that this was the feeling, “This is where I’m supposed to be! I love it here!”

Wow. Where to even begin!

I started this journey about eleven years ago, and I have had some of the best memories of my life. Softball isn’t just a sport. It’s a passion and a love for something bigger than yourself. Softball has taught and given me many, many things.

I’m so excited, but more importantly blessed to announce that I will be furthering my academic and athletic career at the University of Memphis. Thank you to literally everyone who has played a part in molding me into the player and person I am today. Ultimately, I want to thank God for giving me the ability to play the sport I love. I wouldn’t be anywhere I am today without His love and favor in my life.

Lastly, thank you to Coach Poole, Coach Helen, and Coach Lott for seeing something in me. Memphis feels like home and I can’t wait to be in the 901. I’m so grateful for such an amazing opportunity. It’s Memphis vs errrrrrbody- so ya’ll get ready.

— 2021 P/CIF Jenna Faith Gibson, Oklahoma Athletics, committed to Memphis
