Grace Thompson, the daughter of Matt Thompson, a former college baseball coach, started playing 8U softball and quickly fell in love with the sport.
“I began to grow as a player and fell in love with softball, so my dad started a 10U select team called the Texas Sun Devils,” Thompson said. “I played for the Sun Devils through my freshman year of high school.”
Thompson, who eventually, ended up with Hotshots Premier 18U-Mel, has put in countless hours on the field and in the cages and her hard work paid off when the 2022 SS/3B verbally committed to Ole Miss earlier this week.

Thompson was part of this year’s group of prospects that was greatly impacted by COVID-19. There were no official or unofficial visits to campuses and no college camps this summer.
“It can be stressful at times,” Thompson said, “but it was nice to have someone who has been through this process hundreds of times before with his baseball players.”

Can you talk about your club team, how you became involved with them and how they helped you make your decision?
I play for Hotshots Premier 18U Mel. I became involved with the Hotshots after playing against them at many tournaments. I’ve always admired how good their team was and how well coached they were. Recently, I wanted to make a change and try to take my game to another level and knew the Hotshots would be a perfect fit for me. My dad reached out to Nathan Nelson and Gene West from the Hotshots and they welcomed me to their family. Everyone in the Hotshots organization has been awesome and it has been amazing playing with such great players.
