A month ago, yesterday, junior catcher extraordinaire Megan Davidson announced to the world via her Twitter account that she was SEC bound:
I am beyond excited and grateful to announce my commitment to Mississippi State University to continue my academic and athletic career!! @HailStateSB @Coach_Ricketts @MrCoachTbratt @jjpower19 pic.twitter.com/fNorlRhkOA

Known as a vocal leader on the field, Megan laughs when she talks about her commitment to the Mississippi State softball coaches on an unofficial visit at the end of September.
“They told me they had never seen me so quiet and I just laughed, agreeing it was very odd for me,” she recalls. “Just every time I tried to talk, I got choked up.”
The 2023 Extra Elite 100 catcher who plays for the Hotshots Premier – Alabama club team and attends St. Joseph Catholic High in Madison, Mississippi, not only gets to stay in-state, she gets to go to the university her parents attended.
And she had that “aha” moment when she knew she’d be wearing Maroon and White in her near future as she walked onto the football field during a home game against LSU.
“How could you not want to be a part of this?” she asked herself. “It was that feeling everyone talks about when you just know.”
The MSU staff knows something too: they got one of the best backstops in the Class of 2023.
From the Fall of 2020 through the end of this past Summer (2021), Megan hit .511 with nine home runs and 51 RBIs while getting on-base at a .565 clip.
For St. Joseph Catholic High last Spring alone, she hit .577 with a .699 on-base percentage.
It’s not always that everything falls into place just like it seems it should, but for this athlete from the Magnolia State, everything is coming up roses!
Here’s more on Megan and how she committed to the Bulldogs…
*****
You’ve had a very successful softball career… what’s been a highlight so far?
Winning the 2021 JO Cup last summer is definitely at the top of the list.
How did Mississippi State’s staff get you in their system?
I am from Mississippi, so I have been to several camps and they have been to some of my games over the last couple years. They also follow some of the content I post on Twitter. And this past August I attended their Elite camp.
When did they actually offer you a scholarship?
When I was on my unofficial visit September 25, for the LSU game.
