Recruiting Update: 2022 Extra Elite 100 Athlete Remmington Hewitt… Headed from the Farmlands of Northern California to Play 7 Hours North for the Oregon Ducks
October 10, 2021
Remmington, who is one of the most talented athlete in the 2022 class, is active off the sports fields too: she has raised and shown cattle since she was seven-years-old and is also an excellent student-athlete active in her school government.
The Final 2022 Extra Elite 100rankings launch tomorrow: Monday, October 11, 2021, and there’s one player from the West Coast you can count on making it as she has made it every time the ratings have been published.
When Extra Inning Softball first published the first Extra Elite 100 for the 2022 class in the Winter of 2018, Remmington Hewittmade the list at #61and the Californian was so good so young—the multi-sport athlete was playing 18U ball at age 14!—that she was one of the few in her class able to commit in early 2018(to Arizona State) before the Early Signing rules were changed.
It’s been great to watch the young player, who lives about a half hour north of Sacramento, continue her development to where she will soon sign with the University of Oregon—a straight seven-hour drive north up the I-5 freeway—after she opened up her recruiting again this Summer and committed in August to the Northwest school.
Remmington proudly shows where she will be playing her college softball.
“Remmington is excited about her future at Oregon and playing for Head Coach Missy Lombardi and her new coaching staff, Sam Marder, Nikki Ragin and Alyssa Palomino,” the athlete’s club coach, Paulie Gabales, says. “Oregon watched her this Summer and invited her to their fall camp in Eugene right after PG Nationals.”
“After the two-day camp, Missy made her an offer and Remmington accepted. Honestly after her decommit she drew a ton of interest from other schools. She was an early commit before the rule change and had offers from Big Ten and SEC schools among others. She set her sights on being an Oregon duck and feels it’s a great fit with an amazing future ahead. Remmington is an amazing young lady that in heart had a dream to be an Oregon Duck.”
Remmington was an Extra Inning Softball 1st Team All-American in 2021 for her East Nicolaus High team in Trowbridge, California… here’s part of what we wrote about her when the team was published in July:
UT/MIF Jr. Remmington Hewitt, East Nicolaus (Trowbridge) CA
Remmington batted .551 this year with a 1.103 slugging percentage and had nine home runs—one of them a grand slam—with 16 doubles, 42 RBIs and a 1.103 slugging percentage. In the circle she went 2-0 with a 0.63 ERA and had 19 K’s. Remmington was named to the Sacramento Bee’s All-Metro Team and received its Small School Player of the Year award. Last year in a season shortened by COVID, she hit .462 and two years ago she earned CalHi Sports 1st Team All-State Underclass after hitting .401 with a .510 on-base percentage. This year, her team went 23-2 and was the Sac-Valley Champions.
Two years ago, we published an article highlighting some of her accomplishments on and off the athletic fields (and courts and tracks)… here’s some of our favorite ones updated:
She can play all nine positions on the field
Says one of her coaches, “Remmington has all the physical tools, skills and mental make-up to play anywhere on the field and does.” At the high school level, she has played every infield position including catching, some outfield and even pitched in an early season contest.
She’s not the first in her family to commit to play college softball
Remmington’s older sister Preslie, a 2019 grad, is currently an outfield at Nevada playing softball. The two siblings played together at East Nicolaus High as did their cousin, Avery Croxall, a 2020 pitcher who is at Pacific.
The freshman has played varsity volleyball as well as softball and track in high school.
She’s a 4th generation student-athlete at East Nicholaus High
The school is located in a rural farming community and is a school of about 300 kids.
She’s was the Freshman Class President
Sports isn’t all Remmington does well—she’s active in many extra-curricular activities and is strong academically with a 4.0 GPA.
She’s a candidate to be in the Avengers
Well, maybe not… but she is a super-hero when it comes to sports as she’s competed at the varsity level in volleyball, basketball and track in addition to softball and set multiple weight room records at East Nicolaus High.
She can lift more than twice her own weight!
Remmington set the school deadlift record for her weight class by deadlifting more than twice her own weight in her first semester as a freshman.
She raises and shows championship cattle
Remmington has been showing cattle since she was seven-years old and has been very active in 4-H—where she’s held a variety of leadership positions like club president and vice president—and in Future Farmers of America, a student organization for those interested in agriculture and leadership. In 2018, she raised the eventual Supreme Champion Steer at her county fair.
College softball is approaching quickly and is in her near future; it’s going to be fun to watch Remmington’s journey over the next several years.
Coach Gabales has had a front row seat since the athlete started playing on the 18U team the summer of her 8th grade year and knows how high the high school senior’s ceiling is.
“Since her first day with us, Remmington has exhibited leadership and poise in any role we have asked her to fill. She has played every position (except pitcher) over the past four and a half years and done so at a very high level. Her softball IQ and intensity is immediately visible at any position. She spends most of her time now at shortstop, but it is her versatility that makes her most valuable. Remmington can hit for power (10 home runs in the last two Colorado Power Pools) or is equally as happy putting a bunt down to move a runner.”
“Her athleticism, versatility, work ethic, and commitment to being an exceptional teammate is ultimately what sets her apart and why she will compete from Day 1 at the University of Oregon.”
