The Extra Inning Softball Rising Stars Watchlist Adds Tiered System + Leaderboards

Extra Inning Softball is elevating its youth coverage in a significant way with the introduction of two major initiatives tied to the upcoming Rising Stars Futures Summer Watchlist: a new three-tiered evaluation system and the integration of national leaderboards featuring athlete information and photos.

These enhancements represent a clear shift toward earlier national identification, structured development, and increased visibility for athletes in the 10U and 12U age divisions.

Rising Stars Watchlist: Three-Tier System

At the core of this evolution is the launch of a three-tiered framework, designed to categorize athletes based on performance, projection, and long-term potential—ultimately positioning them for future national rankings as they progress through middle school and complete their 8th-grade year.

The tiers include:

Futures Premier
The highest distinction within the Futures platform, Futures Premier identifies a select group of athletes who demonstrate elite-level ability, advanced metrics, and standout performance consistency. This tier serves as the Futures equivalent of the established Extra Elite 100, setting the standard for top-tier recognition at the youth level.

Futures Select
A competitive and balanced tier, Futures Select recognizes athletes who have established themselves as strong performers with clear upward trajectory and continued development potential.

Futures Prospects
This tier highlights emerging athletes who are building momentum within their age group and showing promising growth as they continue to refine their skills.

Together, these tiers create a structured pipeline, offering clarity for families and coaches while reinforcing Extra Inning Softball’s long-term ranking ecosystem.

Leaderboards Bring Visibility to the Next Level

In addition to the tiered system, Extra Inning Softball will now feature all selected athletes on its new national leaderboard platform, a high-traffic destination that is rapidly gaining visibility across the country.

Each athlete included in the Rising Stars Futures Watchlist will have:

  • A featured player photo
  • Placement within the leaderboard system
  • Historical tournament performance and accolades
  • National exposure tied to a centralized platform

This move significantly enhances the value of the watchlist, transforming it from a static recognition into a dynamic, shareable, and highly visible asset for athletes and their families.

Bonnie Holland
Why the Change?

Extra Inning Softball’s CEO Bonnie Holland shared that this evolution is intentional and rooted in long-term athlete development.

“This new approach allows us to begin shaping how athletes are evaluated as they transition out of eighth grade and prepare for regional and national rankings,” Holland explained. “At the same time, it creates meaningful distinction within the game, giving athletes, parents, and coaches a way to follow development over time.”

Rather than assigning fixed numerical rankings at the 10U and 12U levels, the new tiered system provides structured guidance without prematurely labeling athletes.

“It’s important at this age that we avoid placing athletes into concrete ranking numbers,” Holland added. “Instead, we’re offering direction based on the evaluation of our ranking committee and proprietary software, analyzing athletes strictly on statistical performance—not competition level—at this stage.”

While the Rising Stars Futures Summer Watchlist focuses on early development and projection, Extra Inning Softball continues to provide Tournament Performance Rankings, which are built directly on verified athlete performance during competition.

Families and coaches can explore those results and view participating events directly on the Extra Inning Softball leaderboard, offering an additional layer of visibility tied to in-game performance.

Investing in the Next Generation

The Rising Stars Watchlist initiative underscores Extra Inning Softball’s continued commitment to identifying and promoting up-and-coming talent at earlier stages of development. By combining structured tiers with national leaderboard exposure, the platform is creating a clear, trackable pathway for athletes to build recognition over time. View more trending news below.
