CCAA SAYS NO FORMALIZED WINTER/SPRING SCHEDULES & CHAMPIONSHIPS

The California Collegiate Athletic Association, one of the top Division II conferences in the country, announced on Thursday it has made the tough decision to forgo formalized 2020-21 CCAA conference schedules and championships for all sports.

“I know this decision is extremely disappointing for our student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans,” said Mitch Cox, CCAA Commissioner in part of the announcement released today.

“But from the day this pandemic took effect, every decision we made going forward has been focused on the health and safety of everyone involved. We remain committed to providing as many meaningful engagement opportunities for all of our student-athletes, coaches and staff throughout the rest of the 2020-21 academic year.”

While this decision confirms no mandated competitive CCAA schedule will be produced for this academic year, opportunities for team activities, practice and training will be determined and defined by each member institution with the approval of the University president and the Cal State system, and shall adhere to local and state public health regulations. The current CCAA activity policy approved in August remains in place through the end of December.

HITTING WISDOM FROM A LEGEND

When TLI played ball back in the day, Hall of Famers Tony Gwynn and Rod Carew were considered two of the greatest contact hitters in MLB and they were TLI’s favorite hitters. RIP to Gwynn, who passed away in 2014.

TLI is a lifelong Dodgers fan, but Gwynn, who played for the Padres, and Carew, who played for the Angels, were so amazing it was impossible not to follow and admire them. TLI actually got batting lessons from Carew in Anaheim Hills, CA.

TLI came across this video of Gwynn teaching some of his batting techniques. His teachings work for softballers too. Check it out.
