EXTRA ELITE SPOTLIGHT: ELLIE BOSTEDT
Uncommitted RHP Ellie Bostedt, #87 in the 2023 Extra Elite 100, recently talked to Extra Inning Softball about Explosion Premier-Denio/Hagberg, pace yourself, PGF Nationals, PGF Las Vegas Showcase, OC Batbusters-Stith, the recruiting process, future colleges, criminal justice, Lori Harrigan, DJ Kool and “Criminal Minds.”

Honors: #87 in the 2923 Extra Elite 100; A/B Honor Roll; and will be graduating with an advanced honors diploma.
Travel Ball Highlights/Fall Stats: .344 AVG, 145 batters faced, 10 runs, 5 BBs and 43 Ks.
High School Highlights/Stats: .375 AVG, 51 Ks, 7 BBs, 17 runs and 159 batters faced.
Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? My travel team is Explosion Premier 18U. We are a competitive 18U gold team with a mix of 2023 and 2024 players. I play for Donnie Hagberg and Bret Denio. I became involved with this team through one of my friends that I played with throughout 12U and 14U. Her dad introduced me and my dad to Donnie Hagberg in the fall of 2021 and I have played with them since then.
Do you have any suggestions for training methods or apps and why? Some suggestions that I have as far as training methods is to know that it is OK to have a day off every once and awhile, especially as a pitcher. I throw two bullpens a week along with a pitching and hitting lesson. I then do cardio, legs and core work on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Can you tell us about your experience at PGF Nationals this summer? My experience at PGF Nationals last year was amazing. We got to play great competition from the start. We played teams like Tennessee Mojo, Hotshots, Cal Nuggets and plenty more top teams in the country. There were college coaches everywhere recruiting and the list of potential schools was endless.
What was your favorite fall tournament/event and why? My favorite fall tournament was the (PGF) Las Vegas Showcase because I was able to be at home and play. This was my favorite because all of my friends were able to come and support me along with my mom and Nana because they usually aren’t able to watch me play due to the distance.
Which player/team was your toughest opponent and why? The team that was my toughest opponent was (OC) Batbusters-Stith. This is because of the strength that they have on offense. They pushed me to my max and showed me that if you aren’t perfect every pitch, you will pay for it. Batbusters-Stith showed me that I still have a lot of work to do and I can never take my foot off the gas.
Can you talk about how your recruiting process has been going and what you hope to do in the future? My recruitment process has had a lot more ups and downs than I was expecting it to have. Going into September 1st of my junior year, I was bombarded with calls and texts from several Ivy League schools and other Division 1 schools, but I had unfortunately gotten hurt over the summer and lost pretty much all of my contacts. However, I am back and stronger than I have ever been and am talking to several schools, hoping to find my home for the next four years soon.
What are you looking for in a future college? I am looking for a competitive level of academics along with a college that has my major. A major selling point in a college for me is if they have a football team along with challenging classes.
What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? The areas that I am interested in for my future occupation are criminal justice and psychology. I have taken two years of psychology in high school and I think that it is a very interesting topic. Criminal justice interests me for my future occupation because I love learning about famous criminal cases that have happened and the mystery of trying to find someone and their motive.
Who is your sports hero and why? My sports hero is Lori Harrigan. She is a three-time Olympic gold medalist and was actually my pitching coach for several years. I chose her as my sports hero because she taught me so much more than just the fundamentals of the game. She taught me important mental aspects of the game that have helped me through some of the toughest times.
What’s the best hype song and why? The best hype song is “Let Me Clear My Throat” by DJ Kool because it just has a super upbeat vibe and helps loosen up the tension and nerves.
What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? My favorite TV show to binge is “Criminal Minds.” My aspiration is to eventually make it all the way up to the FBI and become a profiler like in the show. This is my favorite show to binge because every episode is something new and it helps me learn how to look at things from different perspectives.
