MORGAN SMITH REACHES THE PINNACLE

Pinnacle has reached the AIA state championship game three consecutive years with a state title in 2018, and the Pioneers have their sights set on another state championship, especially with Morgan Smith in the lineup.

Smith, who plays with Corona Angels-Tyson, gives Pinnacle a shot against any team in the nation with her skills inside the circle and at the plate.

Let’s take a look at “Mo” …

Tell us about your high school team and what we should expect from your team this season?
Our team is very young and we have a lot of new players from JV. We get along well and have a lot of fun together. Everyone has such a great work ethic and works extremely hard. We are definitely a work in progress, but I have no doubt that all the pieces will fall in place together. Over the season, we will gain more and more experience to be able to draw on when we are back in the playoffs or hopefully back on the biggest stage — the championship game. Everyone can expect us to battle hard until the very end.

What have you learned about yourself in the past year?
I have learned that I am my biggest road block and my biggest competition. It is all about the mind game and I am working to strengthen that part of my game. I have finally learned that I have the potential to be an SEC caliber pitcher. I just have to keep working hard to get better and better every single day.

What is something you have faced in your life that has helped you become the person that you are today?
I had to mature and realize that sometimes when you are not thriving in your current situation, you have to make a change. I had to face the fact that where I was, although it was with friends I had played with for years, and in a place where I had become comfortable, it was not the place where I ultimately needed to be. With my current travel ball team, I can see that clearly now. Sometimes you have to leave your comfort zone in order to reach the next levels.
