SCOUTING REPORT: SELECT FASTPITCH 18U
TLI will be taking a look at some of the top teams from across the nation as the fall season heats up.
Today we take a look at Eric Jones’ team …
Select Fastpitch 18U came into being when Coach Jones merged the organization’s 16U team from this past summer with the residual 18U players.
Here are the team’s summer record/top finishes:
- Select Fastpitch 18U — 3rd place at Top Gun Invitational; 3rd place at DeMarini Invitational; and Top 16 at USA Gold Nationals;
- Select Fastpitch 16U — 2nd place at Top Gun Invitational; 5th place at Top Club Invitational; Top 15 at USA Gold Nationals; and went 7-1 in Triple Crown Fireworks Tournament in Chatanooga.

What will it take for your team to be successful this season?
For our team to have continued success this year,” Jones said, “it will be based on our athleticism at the plate and our depth in the circle. Our outfield is extremely athletic and deep this year, which will make it fun to watch them compete for starting roles. Our experience with winning at the 16U and 18U level will be very strong as these two teams come together.
Who is your No. 1 pitcher and what can you tell us about her skills? And who else could see some time in the circle?
All of our pitchers have been No. 1 pitchers at times over the past couple of years,” Jones said. “The competition they bring for each other pushes them to be better. I look for all of them to have tremendous success as we have depth like we’ve never had it. Each one of these pitchers has beaten several Top-10 programs and they are only getting stronger.
What can we expect from your offense?
Our offense this year will have power and a ton of speed,” Jones said. “I look for our traditional power numbers to stay high, but with our athleticism on the bases and the left side of the plate will give us opportunities to beat some of the best teams in the nation.
