What an amazing career at the Florida Amanda Lorenz has had and she’s not done yet!
The senior, who is batting at team-best .421 heading into the NCAA Div. I playoffs, led her team to an SEC Conference Championship, was named a week ago as one of the 10 finalists for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year and in mid-April was the #2 overall pick in the NFP Draft, following her Gator teammate Kelly Barnhill.
Friday at 2:30 pm EST, Amanda will take the field for the first Gainesville Regional match-up for Florida as the Gators host Boston University. It will be fun to watch how she does in her final college playoff run, for sure!
Five years ago, however, finishing up her softball career at Florida was light years away as Amanda was having great success playing for the OC Batbusters and being named the #1 player in the Class of 2015 by our Brentt Eads when he was running Student Sports Softball.
In January of 2014, at a Surf City Showcase, Brentt told Amanda he’s be #1 in his then Student Sports Hot 100 rankings… you can see that video interview below.
Scroll down also to read a blog Amanda wrote on January 13, 2014 about her feelings on being ranked the #1 player in the 2015 class.
This which also included other top players such as Kelly Barnhill (who, ironically, was #2 behind Lorenz in Brentt’s list!), #3 Sydney Romero, #4 Shay Knighten, #5 Taylor McQuillin, #6 Taryn Alvelo, #8 Alyssa Pal0mino (now Palomino-Cardoza), #9 Kenzi Maguire and #10 Rachel Garcia.
Quite an impressive group Amanda headed! Here’s the blog and video of Amanda…

First of all I just wanted to say how honored I am to have been recognized as number one.
The girls in my class are unbelievably talented and I am just thankful to be in the same category as them. It’s a great feeling to know my hard work is paying off, but I will never stop working hard!
