WBSC U-19 Women’s Softball World Cup: USA Captures First Win Behind Megan Faraimo’s Four-Inning Perfect Game

The U-19 Women’s National Team (WNT) opened up its 2019 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-19 Women Softball World Cup campaign with a four-inning 15-0 victory over Mexico behind a 12-strikeout perfect game from Megan Faraimo (Vista, Calif.).

“It is an honor to be here and playing with the best in the world and against the best in the world,” Faraimo said. “My job tonight was just to get my team back in the dugout and a lot of this goes to the offense because without them I wouldn’t have been able to get out of here early.”

The U.S. jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first when Skylar Wallace (Woodstock, Ga.) lead off with a single to centerfield followed by a single from Jasmine Sievers (Laguna Niguel, Calif.).

Wallace would come around to score on errors before Jayda Coleman (The Colony, Texas) would drive Sievers in with a single to right field to give The Eagles a 2-0 lead.

Team USA pushed across three more runs in the second inning to make it a 5-0 lead, but the bats lit up in the fourth to bust the game open with 10 runs crossing the plate.

The U.S. recorded eight hits in the fourth inning, half of which went for extra bases with three doubles and one triple from Wallace who was 3-for-4 at the plate today with two RBI.

While the lineup was doing damage at the plate, Megan Faraimo was purely perfect in the circle against Mexico as she recorded all 12 outs in today’s game via strikeouts to secure the 15-0 four inning victory.

“I just think that for a pitcher to know that she has the capacity to really operate herself one pitch at a time and continue to stay in the moment and not make one pitch bigger than the next and just continue to play her game is huge,” U-19 WNT Head Coach, Heather Tarr (Redmond, Wash./Head Coach at Washington) said.

“You could tell from the first inning on that she was going to have a good game just from her focus and intent and how she was approaching the game.”
