WCWS Player Spotlight: Alabama Leadoff Hitter Alexis Mack… She’s Been A Speedy Record Setter Since Her Pre-College Days in Ohio!

Alexis previously won the Pac-12 hitting title in 2017 while at Oregon and has continued to shine, earning 1st Team All-SEC and All-Region honors this year. Photo: Alabama Softball.

Alabama is just one game away from making the Championship Finals of the 2021 Women’s College World Series and has shown great pitching (think Montana Fouts), impressive hitting (courtesy of Bailey Hemphill and Kaylee Tow, especially) and impressive speed (we’re talking about you Alexis Mack, the speedy leadoff hitter).

The Ohio native is hitting .411 this year overall and .385 in the NCAA Playoffs and has a team-best 25 steals. Photo: Alabama Softball.

The Tide has won 20 games in a row including seven in the NCAA Playoffs and Alexis has been a key reason why.

For the season, she is batting .411, second only to Bailey’s .418, and has a team-high 25 steals (on 29 attempts).

In the playoffs she’s 10-for-26 (.385) and has scored eight runs in the Alabama victories including going 2-for-4 with two runs scored against UCLA on Friday.

The outfielder has started every game for Pat Murphy’s team this year and is a graduate student from Brecksville, Ohio, who was named as a 1st Team All-SEC honoree this year and also was an NCAA 1st Team All-South Region selection.

She started her college career at South Carolina after graduating in 2016 and then transferred to Oregon where she competing as a sophomore and junior in the 2017 and ’18 seasons before she really found her home in the SEC with the Tide.

Alexis is working on a Master’s Degree in Advertising and has been a star on and off the field, even serving as a speaker and emcee over the years at the prestigious Empowering Girls for Life series.

To honor her great career and chance to finish off winning a National Championshp, we look back to a story we published nearly two years ago when Alexis had just joined Alabama…

New Alabama Signee Alexis Mack… A Look Back at Her Record-Setting High School Career

Originally published June 20, 2019 on Extra Inning Softball

Alexis got to play two years at Alabama due to the COVID pandemic in 2020.

Alexis Mack, the two-time All-Pac-12 honoree who started her college career at South Carolina before playing at Oregon for two years, is returning to the SEC.

The speedy outfielder announced Thursday on her Twitter page that she would use her final year of eligibility to play for Patrick Murphy’s Crimson Tide team:

In 2017, her first in the Pac-12, she hit a team-high .424 which was second in the conference and led the Pac-12 with 28 steals to earn 1st Team Pacific All-Region and 2nd Team All-Pac-12.

She repeated both of those honors as a junior in 2018 when the outfielder used her great speed to hit .369, second-best on the team. Her 24 steals led the Ducks.

In 2017 and 2018, Alexis earned All-Pacific Region honors and was a top hitter for Oregon. Photo by Phillip Quinn (Daily Emerald).

But big numbers aren’t unusual for the lefty hitter, who played second base for Brecksville (Ohio) High and didn’t start in the outfield until her sophomore year at Oregon.

Alexis finished her high school career as an All-American and three-time 1st Team NFCA All-Region pick as well as earning 1st Team All-State for three years.
