Week seven of the college softball season, from a conference perspective, gets underway tonight as Oklahoma State travels to Provo, Utah to take on BYU in a Big 12 series which kicks off another weekend of softball action.
Arguably the top matchup of week seven is a non-conference affair as Virginia Tech ventures to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to face the Crimson Tide in a two-game series. The Hokies are currently 24-4-1 on the season and have won 14 of their last 15 games overall, while Alabama is 24-5 on the year and boasts a 12-3 record at Rhoads Stadium.
Top-ranked Oklahoma hosts Baylor in a Big 12 meeting. The first game of the series will be played on Friday (March 22) at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium and then head down I-35 where the Sooners and Bears will play the final two games of the series at Love’s Field.
Of course, last season Baylor was the only team to defeat Oklahoma as the Bears recorded a 4-3 win at the Getterman Classic. The Sooners returned the favor during Big 12 play as OU swept Baylor and outscored BU 13-0.
The Southeastern Conference features a trio of intriguing matchups as Mississippi State visits Arkansas, LSU travels to Missouri and South Carolina hosts Tennessee.
