10 Questions With Pitcher Shannon Becker, aka “Ms. Perfect,” Who’s Headed to Notre Dame

Junior Shannon Becker has had a remarkable year capped off by committing to Notre Dame this week.

College coaches around the nation took notice when 2021 pitcher Shannon Becker tossed a “Perfect-Perfect Game” to lead Mohapec High, New York, to an 8-0 victory over Carmel High of Carmel Hamlet, NY, last season.

The MSG Network dubbed the Northeast right-hander “Ms. Perfect” after she threw the perfect game and struck out all 21 batters she faced.

After all the attention and her stellar play for the Empire State Huskies and on the national stage with East Coast Bullets-Biele in club play, Miss Perfecto—who was also a Top 50 player in the 2021 Extra Elite 100 and an Extra Inning Softball 2nd Team All-American— recently verbally committed to Notre Dame.

“I think it was important for me to be in a stable program,” Becker said. “Notre Dame is a well developed and respected program. This being said, they are extremely successful. I think it would be extremely cool to be a part of Notre Dame’s first visit to the (Women’s) College World Series in a while, and bring home an ACC title, which is what I’m hoping to help accomplish in my four years there.”

Empire State Huskies coach John Knopf, who has been coaching Becker since she was eight-years old, said Becker was a talented three-sport athlete (basketball, soccer and softball), who could play any position on the softball field. When she landed on pitcher, she ran with the position.

“Well, to her teammates, she is just Shannon as this team has been together since they were 9 (years old),” Knopf said, “but when they jump on the field, they all look up to Shannon because as we know it all starts in the circle. If anyone makes a mistake, she always has there back to pick them up.

Shannon had 369 strikeouts in 163 innings as a sophomore.

“Shannon has always wanted to be the best. From a young age and even when she would climb that hurdle, she would always be humble and move to the next one. She never acts like she is better than anyone and just keeps driving forward to meet her goals.”

Binghamton-committed 2021 SS Sarah Rende of Empire State Huskies said despite Becker’s vast skills she remains extremely humble and makes the teammates around her better.

“On the field, Shannon is incredibly composed and always gets the job done,” Rende said. “She is one of the only pitchers I have complete trust in to get us out of any situation because of her skill and determination. Being on the same field as her has pushed me to become a better player because of how hard she works. Not only is she an incredible player but an incredible teammate. She’s always cheering in the dugout and picking up her teammates after a bad at-bat or when they are down.

Uncommitted 2021 RHP Lexi Delbrey said Becker has been a great addition to the EC Bullets.

“Shannon is the best,” Delbrey said. “She brings so much joy to our team and is an excellent pitcher. She works the count very well when she faces good batters. I really enjoy playing with her.”

EC Bullets coach Andrew Biele believes Notre Dame will be getting a true student of the game in Becker.

“Shannon is a competitor and a perfectionist,” Biele said. “She is extremely self-motivated and thrives to be the best. A true student of the game. She is a great teammate. When she’s not pitching she’s so engaged with her teammates, especially her fellow pitchers on the staff. She is so happy when her fellow pitchers do well. She is an amazing pitcher, but even a better young lady.”
