Iowa Premier National put together a spectacular run, coming out of the loser’s bracket to win the 14U title at the USA Elite Select World Fastpitch Championship on Friday night at Blue Valley Recreation in Overland Park, KS.
Iowa Premier, #32 in the Extra Elite Eighty 14U Club Rankings, got knocked into the loser’s bracket with a 4-1 lost to Wisconsin Bandits Gold on Thursday morning. Iowa Premier had to win five games to reach the finals, including two over Wisconsin Bandits Gold, 2-0 and 6-5, in the semifinals. Then Iowa Premier exploded for 16 hits to overwhelm #40 Select Fastpitch 14U, 17-7, in the championship game.
“(They) came all the way back in the loser’s bracket (and) won five straight in 95-degree heat index,” Iowa Premier director Greg Dickel said. “(They) double dipped Wisconsin Bandits Gold (and) beat Select Fastpitch in the title game by run rule.”
Teagan Kavan went 2 for 3 with a run scored and six RBIs, Kayci Rigby went 3 for 3 with a double, a homer, a run scored and five RBIs, Kendra Lewis went 3 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs, Ashley Wolfe went 2 for 3 with two stolen bases, three runs scored and an RBI, Paige Rummans went 2 for 3 with a run scored, Marin Heller went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and Halle Christensen had three stolen bases and scored four runs to lead Iowa Premier’s offense in the finals.
“Teagan Kavan was her usual self in the circle,” Iowa Premier coach Kevin Christensen said. “She had some help from Kendra Lewis. Offensively, Ashley Wolfe, Kendra Lewis and Kayci Rigby were the standouts. Kavan won overall MVP. Gracie King was Defensive MVP.”
Kylie Brockman and Emmerson Cope hit homers for Select Fastpitch in the title game.
SELECT FASTPITCH HOLDS ON IN 12U WFC FINALS
Select Fastpitch 12U, #33 in the Extra Elite Eighty 12U Club Rankings, held on for a 7-5 victory over #12 Hotshots Premier HTX 07 in the 12U championship game of the USA Elite Select WFC at Blue Valley Recreation in Overland Park, KS.
Reagan Lundy went 2 for 3 with two doubles, a run scored and two RBIs, Mackenzie Rooney went 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI, Lindsey Ramsey drove in two runs, Abbie Walden went 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI, Jaleigh White went 1 for 2 with a run scored and Kaedence Irby and Malia Bucksath both went 1 for 3 with a run scored to power Select Fastpitch’s offense.
Walden had an RBI single, Rooney had an RBI single, Lundy had a two-run double and Ramsey drove in a run with a groundout as Select Fastpitch exploded for five runs in the top of the second to forge a 7-0 lead.
The Hotshots didn’t go quietly, scoring one run in the bottom of the second and four in the bottom of the fourth to close the gap to 7-5. Kailey Monsef had an RBI single, Kimber Moraw had a two-run triple and the Hotshots added an unearned run during their four-run rally.
White came on in relief and pitched three scoreless innings with three strikeouts to close out the game and preserve the victory for Select Fastpitch.
