LADY DUKES CLOSE OUT SUMMER WITH 16U TC EAST COAST NATIONALS TITLE

Lady Dukes-Lamar closed out its summer season with an impressive run to the Triple Crown East Coast Summer Nationals championship this past weekend in Myrtle Beach, SC. The Lady Dukes beat Originals 22/23, 4-0, in the 16U title game.

Olivia Duncan and Summer Bullard both pitched complete game shutouts for the Lady Dukes, while Emma Bailey shut down everyone she faced and has not allowed a earned run her last six appearances on the mound. The trio combined for shutouts in seven of the Lady Dukes last nine games. Gabby Aughton and left-handed power pitcher/hitter Cassidy Curd round out the Lady Dukes pitching staff, which had an impressive 23-3-1 record in the Lady Dukes last three events of the summer.

Catchers Kairi Rodriguez (2022) and Zoe Yaeger (2023) did not allow any stolen bases this past week and both batted over .400 with runners in scoring position.

Rita Nuss has been a hitting machine at the plate, hitting over .480 and .623 with runners in scoring position. Jordan Lynch (2024) led the team in triples and doubles this season, hitting over .520 for the season. Lynch thrived with runners in scoring position and her ability to beat out hits in small ball and her gap power made her one of the toughest outs in the Lady Dukes lineup.

Layla Lamar, a 2024 Florida commit, led the team in offensive power hitting with seven bombs and making some great plays on defense in the last two weeks.

Team Captain Jada Baker, a 2021 Duke commit, tallied five home runs in the last two tournaments. Baker’s stellar defensive play at shortstop set the tone for the Dukes.

Defense in the middle infield was on lock down with stellar play by Nehanda Lewis and Nadia Sykes, a 2022 Duke commit. Sykes has serious power to all fields, her long ball power single-handedly won games this season for the Dukes. Lewis has made quite the impression on the field with her playmaking ability and her relentless pursuit to making every play on dirt at second base. Lewis’ timely hits and her overall play was important to the Dukes success.

“I would like to say this season has been a total team effort, from the players to the parents that help on game day,” Lady Dukes coach James Lamar said. “Our team is built on being humble, unselfish athletes. They embrace and support their teammates deeply. Our culture values winning, but we embrace the process and make our time together fun. Every game is a party and track meet on dirt! They have truly bought in and the success on the field is an example of the character and resolve, we have as a team.”
