The Mojo Lunsford 2023/2024 team is new to the Mojo organization but very familiar with high level competition dating back to 8U.
Over the past few years, the team’s successes have included winning National Champions at USA Nationals (2020, 2018), taking 3rd at PGF Nationals (2019) and capturing the Florida Fastpitch Classic (2020).
The weekend before Thanksgiving the squad went 4-1 at the Bolts 5-Star Showcase.
This Mojo team was originally constructed by Mike Lunsford as the Head Coach with several other parents along the way and all are still coaching today within a few high-level programs as well. Lunsford and Jason Wade have been a coaching duo since 2018 and working together on the same staff since 2014.
Says Coach Lunsford, “Mojo is the third organization that this team has transitioned to while on the journey to discover the best fit for promotion of the kids and overall alignment. We made this transition because of the leadership and goal alignment that Brooks Cherry discussed with us before coming aboard. Strong family values, transparency, and integrity were the foundation to this move.”
He says the key to the team’s success has been focusing on a “We vs. Me” approach on the field and a focus on academics off of it.
“This team is an exceptional group of young ladies that excel in the classroom as much if not more so than on the field,” the head coach continues, “with an overall cumulative average hovering at 4.0. Each student-athlete participates in AP, Honors, Gifted, or Accelerated Subjects while handling the tough regiments of pitching lessons, hitting lessons, multiple sports, practices, and so on. They have proven that being a top 1% athlete starts in the classroom.”
With the conclusion of the Fall season, the team will take a break in December and January to “recover, repair, and train for the quest of another national championship.”
No one knows what 2021 holds with the uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, but the team looks to compete in the Premier Division of PGF Nationals in Southern California next summer and in the Triple Crown Nationals (Colorado) while sharpening their skills in tournaments and showcases around the Southeast.
Loaded with talent, experienced coach and the goal to be considered the top team in the East, Lunsford believes his players have the fire and work ethic to be “in good overall company in the top 10 nationally.”
“We are excited to see how their stock rises with Extra Inning Softball and other forums,” he concludes, “as this group continues to put numbers on the board for all to see and all to verify.”
