Club Team Spotlight: Tennessee Mojo – Lewis 08 Ready to Make a Splash at 12U in 2021

The Mojo-Lewis 08 team won the PGF Fall Championshp to finish off the successful 2020 season.

From old to young, college-bound to future stars, Coach Brittany Lewis has made a drastic change in age divisions since last fall.

Her Mojo-Lewis 08 team was started at 12U in August of 2020 after the head coach finished up with her 18U Mojo team last summer, placing 3rd at Triple Crown Nationals and seeing all 18 players sign Division I softball scholarships.

“Being a part of the Tennessee Mojo organization is special to me and I know this is what I am called to do,” Lewis explains, “so when (program head) Brooks Cherry asked me to drop back down and start an ‘08 (12U) team, it was hard to turn down.”

Prior to starting this new team, Coach Lewis added two former DI athletes to her coaching staff in Draven Sonnon and Kelsey Chisholm, both standouts at Georgia Tech from 2014-2018.

These former ACC athletes will have a chance to pass on their expertise to a new generation of talent that Lewis has assembled.

“Last August I held a tryout and kids from all over the nation expressed interest,” Lewis says. “I currently have 14 kids on the roster and my plan is to not only compete nationally and win championships, but also stay with these kids all the way through… to help them do their recruitment and get them successfully to the next level.”

“We were looking to fill this team with like-minded kids and parents, people who want to compete, have fun, and put the work in to excel on the national level,” the coach adds.

The current roster is lined with standout players from all over the Southeast.

“We had interest from kids as far as California,” Lewis continues, “but as a coaching staff we decided 12U was a little too young for the commitment that would take. Our team is built on fundamentals and discipline on and off the field. Our practices are run like collegiate practices: they’re fast paced with high reps and are fundamental driven.”

“We put a huge emphasis on the mental side of the game and our goal is to develop all around athletes with high game IQ by the time they leave us,” adds the head coach. “We finished fall placing in all of our tournaments and winning the PGF Fall State Championship to finish the season.”

“We will compete nationally this spring and summer.”

Here’s a look at some of the top individuals who will help Mojo 08 be a candidate to win every tourney they’re in this year. Comments are from Coach Lewis…

KEY POSITION PLAYERS TO WATCH
Coach Brittany Lewis (right) with Avary Stockwell.

Halle Kate Bailey (2026, MIF/OF)
Halle Kate comes from a strong gene pool of athletes: her Mom, Sarah Fekete Bailey, played for the Tennessee Lady Vols from 2002-2006 for Ralph and Karen Weekly and lined up in centefrield behind Monica Abbott, competing in two NCAA World Series. Sarah also led the NCAA in hitting in 2006 and was voted a two-time 1st Team NFCA All-American before she played professionally with the Philadelphia Force for Rachel Lawson and Team USA for Carole Hutchins. Halle Kate’s Dad, Chad, played baseball for Cleveland State and Maryville College. Says Coach Lewis: “Halle Kate has the smoothest hands I have seen in the dirt for a kid her age. She moves and reacts to balls way beyond her years.” At the plate, the  is a triple threat slapper and can fly around the bases. Halle was recently selected to the Select 30 in Viera, Florida set for this month.

Avary Stockwell (2026, C)
Avary joins the Mojo after playing for the TN Fury organization. “She is, in my opinion, the top catcher in the 08 class,” according to Coach Lewis. The backstop is already 5-foot-8 at 12-years-old and “has a presence behind the plate that is unmatched. The communication and game IQ she provides our pitching staff is far advanced for kids her age. She can call her own games already.” Avary is the team’s clean-up hitter and led Mojo in RBIs last fall while batting .400 and compiling an on-base percentage close to .500. “When people play our team,” the head coach explains, “I always get asked about this kid.” Avary was also selected to the Select 30 in Viera, Florida.

Audrey Cathey (2026, C/3B)
Audrey played previously with the Birmingham Thunderbolts and is a power-hitting lefty who wears #24 after her mentor and friend, Aubrey Barnhart, an Alabama commit and Tennessee Mojo 2021 standout. “Aubrey and Audrey go to the same hitting instructor,” Lewis adds, “and Aubrey has taken Audrey under her wing since she was small.” The 2026 grad is an athlete behind the plate and in the field, heralded for having a cannon for an arm and throwing a 1.7 second pop time to 2nd base. She is also a force in the infield due to her great hands and strong arm across the dirt. “Audrey hits in the middle of my order,” Coach Lewis says, “and led our team in OBP while having an excellent fall for us.”
