Earlier this month, we ran our complete list of the Extra Elite 100 College Coaches list and one of those who was listed was Frank Reed, the amazingly accomplished coach at Tennessee-Chattanooga.
Reed is entering his 20th year as head coach of the Southern Conference school this year (the conference also includes Citadel, Eastern Tennessee State, Furman, Mercer, North Carolina-Greensville, Samford, VMI, Western Carolina and Wofford).
One of the criteria for consideration in the rankings was impact in the student-athlete’s lives and Reed has certainly done that—for example, graduates from Reed’s teams have gone on to work in Major League Baseball, the NPF and many other top professional organizations.
Coach Reed has also helped grow the sport internationally as he’s been the head coach of the Dominican Republic National Team and been a hitting instructor for Team Mexico.
A life-long resident of Chattanooga and graduate of Central High School, the long-time coach also spent more than 30 years as a City of Chattanooga employee. He and his wife, Denise, reside in Chattanooga and have two daughters, Amy Highfield and Dana Reed Mull (who is the head softball coach of Gordon Lee High School and played at UTC for four years) and five grandchildren
Here’s more on his impactful career…
