Week eight of the regular season is almost completely in the books, save for a handful of April Fool’s Day match-ups that include the rubber game between Tennessee and Missouri in Columbia, Missouri.
While the winner of that series is still to be determined, let’s look at some of the top performers and performances from the weekend’s action.

Ole Miss Rebels
Florida heads to Oxford and loses the series… that’s how everybody predicted things to go, right? Probably not, but Mike Smith’s squad showed up with another impressive performance behind the arm of Molly Jacobsen, securing the series win with back-to-back wins on Saturday and Sunday. A 15-inning affair began the series and wound up tilting in the Gators’ favor thanks to a late home run by Kendyl Lindaman, but the remainder of the series was all Rebels – a walk-off grand slam by Abbey Latham in the series’ middle game was followed by a 3-1 Rebel win in the rubber game of the series. The Rebels got to Kelly Barnhill in both wins, with Latham’s grand slam coming off of Barnhill, on in relief, as well as all three runs in the series finale.

Arizona Wildcats
The Duel in the Desert, the annual meeting between the Wildcats and their arch rivals, the Arizona State Sun Devils, took place this weekend, and it was a series that was all Cats. Mike Candrea’s club shut out the Sun Devils in all three games, earning 8-0 run-rule wins in each of the series’ first two games before posting a 2-0 result in the series finale. Six Arizona batters hit home runs on the weekend, while Taylor McQuillin allowed just four hits in a pair of complete-game victories and Alyssa Denham posted a two-hit, shutout performance in the series’ middle game. The impressive performance gives the Wildcats a perfect 9-0 record in conference play.
