ELLA SPORTS FOUNDATION: AWARDED AS ONE OF THE 2023 SPORTS 4 LIFE GRANT RECIPIENT BY WOMEN’S SPORTS FOUNDATION

In the coming days and weeks, Extra Inning Softball is rolling out BIG changes!  You will hear about our new initiatives, formats, and ways to get involved. This new approach involves making sure we provide content that always aligns with the “BIG THREE” | Empower, Inspire, Support!

In the meantime, we wish to highlight an organization that also aligns with our BIG THREE initiative to Empower, Inspire, and Support young athletes!

In May 2023, we shared a story about Lilly Travieso who founded ELLA Sports Foundation, with the help of her mother, Patty Godoy. ELLA stands for Empowering Leadership in Latina Athletes, and is as a 501©(3) non-profit with a mission to support young female athletes in becoming leaders of tomorrow through sports and academic excellence.

We are happy to announce that the Ella Sports Foundation was awarded one of the 2023 Sports 4-Life Grant Recipient by Women’s Sports Foundation (WSF).

(WSF)’s Sports 4 Life Program is a national initiative, co-founded with ESPN, and supported by Gatorade to utilize the power of sports to build a solid foundation for girls of color to thrive both on and off the field.

This powerful initiative – now on its 10th year – continues to fill in the gaps by lending support  and assisting Black, African American, Hispanic, and Native American girls throughout the country. 

“We are grateful to the Women’s Sports Foundation for naming ELLA Sports Foundation as a 2023 Sports 4 Life grant recipient,” says Patty Godoy, ELLA Co-Founder.

“The grant will support the ELLA Young Women Leadership Development Program (YWLDP) which provides Latina/e and young women of color of all ages with knowledge about sports and its benefits as well as equip them with leadership tools to succeed in and out of the field.

The Ella Young Women Leadership Development Program consists of a series of one-hour workshops covering:

1) Basics of positive, value-driven leadership

2) Emotional intelligence and self-awareness

3) Communication strategies, networking,  & community-building techniques.

4) Personal development, innovation, and continued leadership growth.

The program offers a workshop supporting young girls in elementary school. It also provides guidance to parents on the ins-and-outs of “Raising Girl Athletes.” Leadership training gives Latina/e student athletes the tools to become advocates not only for themselves but for their communities. These tools will assist them in their pathways through the collegiate athletic system as well as their future educational pursuits.
