Event News: USSSA Pride & Florida Gulf Coast League All-Stars to Play 3-Game Series Next Week

Mack Leonard and Jenny Jansen of the Mocs will be playing on the FGCL All-Star team.

The Florida Gulf Coast League (FGCL) has announced a partnership with the USSSA Pride for a three-day event at the Pride’s home fields, USSSA Space Coast Stadium, in Melbourne, Fla., July 22 – 24.

This will bring both the professional athletes of the USSSA Pride and several of the FGCL All-Stars together on the field for competition between many of the game’s top pro and college players.

“We’re excited about the opportunity to compete with the FGCL for a three-game series,” said Don DeDonatis III, USSSA Chief Executive Officer. “After working through much adversity over the last few weeks, it is refreshing to know our team will be able to finish out the summer in front of thousands of athletes attending our USSSA All American Games tournament.”

“We have an extremely talented group of athletes that is passionate about creating future opportunities for the young, aspiring athletes in fastpitch,” continued DeDonatis. “Our team is dedicated to bettering the game and I am confident that partnering with the Florida Gulf Coast League to host a three-game series creates a unique opportunity for the athletes at the All American Games to see some of their favorite players live in action.”

The FGCL will be coming off its historic first season as a summer league dedicated to the players of collegiate softball. Players were selected to compete in Melbourne from a committee of coaches and league officials. All were standouts throughout the summer.

“We couldn’t be more honored and humbled at this opportunity to show off our athletes with the amazing competitors of the USSSA Pride,” said FGCL Executive Director Ryan Moore. “Across our rosters, we have so many young women who have worked to not only to improve, but excel, at their sport. We are so excited they will have the opportunity to be on the same field with the players they have admired for many years.”

The FGCL is a 501C-3 organization based out of Bradenton, Fla. This collegiate summer league consists of seven teams competing over five weeks. Players represent more than 56 schools and all divisions of collegiate softball.

Plans are already in place for the league to build on the success of this summer’s games and have a 2021 season.
