Extra Inning Softball’s National Club Player & National Club Team of the Week – June 16, 2020

Remember the name Ava Lorenzatti… she looks like a pitching standout for the future as she helped her Bandits team win at Top Gun Invitational last weekend.

Our Extra Inning Softball National Club Player & National Club Team of the Week series kicks off for the 2020 summer season with today’s edition.

The Club Player/Team of the Week features great individual and team accomplishments from the past weekend along with those who were Runners-Up with similarly strong performances.

This week’s honorees covers games and tournaments from Monday, June 7 through Sunday June 14, 2020…

National Club Player of the Week:
Pitcher Ava Lorenzatti (Beverly Bandits – Trackwell)

* Ava Lorenzatti had a breakout weekend for the Beverly Bandits – Trackwell team, ranked preseason at #6 in the Extra Elite Eighty 12U Club Rankings, as she helped leader her squad to the championship of the 12U finals at the Top Gun Invitational in Kansas City this past weekend.

Ava Lorenzatti hit two home runs at Top Gun Invitational, but it was her pitching that earned her National Club Player of the Year.

Ava’s pitching and bat helped propel the Bandits to an 8-1 record and she was dominating, carrying most of the team’s burden in the heat of the tournament.

In the championship win, a 4-0 shutout over #33 ranked Select Fastpitch 12U – Woelbel, the pitcher threw a one-hit shutout with three walks and 12 K’s in five innings and on Friday tossed a no-hitter in the 1-0 Bandits win over Select Fastpitch.

For the Top Gun Invitational, the 2026 grad went 6-0 and in 30 innings pitched had 59 strikeouts versus just six walks, three hits and one earned run (her WHIP was .533).  Ava also hit two home runs over the fence and was part of a complete team effort.

In the first game back from the COVID-19 pandemic forced break, the Bandits did everything right, including racking up 70 hits, 47 RBIs and a fielding percentage of .958 in nine games.

But most impressive of all was Ava, who drew the admiration of those across the field and those in her dugout too.

“Ava Lorenzatti killed it this weekend,” Bandits coach David Trackwell told Extra Inning Softball. “She is a 2026 pitcher that will do big things!”

Runners-Up / National Player of the Week

* Jackie Alday, a 2022 C/3B with the NorCal Firecrackers – Mettler, is on fire, hitting .714 with three doubles, a home run and six RBIs going back to the start of the month. She’s hitting .700 so far in games for her 16U team.

McKayla Betts (Germantown Red Devils) hit .400 over the weekend and didn’t commit any errors in the infield.

* McKayla Betts, a 2022 MIF/3B with the Germantown Red Devils, hit .400 and had four RBIs while no committing any errors in her team’s play at the Power50 tournament. From Greenbrier, Arkansas, McKayla has interest from Big Ten, Big 12 and SEC schools among others. She’s hitting .390 for the young summer season.

* 2023 pitcher Olivia Duncan of the Lady Dukes – Lamar 14U team, has been almost untouchable this summer so far. She’s pitched 10 innings and had 14 strikeouts in eight games and hasn’t allowed an earned run so far this season.

* Lilly “Goose” Goodwin of the Scottsdale Diamonds- Kobasew 08 (12U) team is another talented young player to watch from the Class of 2026. In Payson, Arizona over the weekend, she tossed a two-hitter with 13 K’s against an 07 team on Saturday and on Sunday captured the win as she in the circle and also had four RBIs.

* Ashton Stevens, a 2022 IF from McDonough, Georgia who was 1st Team All-Region as a freshman at Union Grove High, hit .667 with a .727 on-base percentage for Atlanta Vipers – Sims last week at the Champions Fastpitch Summer Showcase in Atlanta. Ashton is also a letter winner for her school in lacrosse.

Tennessee Mojo 24 – Rose was a host team at the ProSwings Power50 and and took home the 14U crown.
National Club Team of the Week:
Tennessee Mojo 2024 – Ross

* You could make a case that the Tennessee Mojo 2024 team coached by Jay Ross wasn’t a very congenial host at the weekend’s ProSwings Power50 tournament (which the Mojo organization hosted last weekend in Cookeville, Tennessee working with Stephanie Best and the ProSwings team based in Florida).

The Mojo won the 14U finals with a 16-8 win over the Virginia Unity-Johnson team after losing earlier in pool play, but a 7-1 record and an offensive onslaught that featured over 8 runs per game made Ross pretty happy.

“We swung the bat pretty well today,” the coach said after the victory on Sunday, and that included McCall Sims (2025 outfielder) who Ross said “was on fire all weekend.”

Alexia Carrasquillo (left) finished in the Top 6 of the Home Run Derby at the Power50 and had a homer during the tournament.

McCall was one of five players who had home runs over the weekend—Ramsey Walker (2024 outfield) and Jada Phillips (2024 C/IF) each smashed two each and Alexia Carrasquillo (2024 C/IF committed to Florida) and Mia Brown (2024 P/1B) each had a round-tripper—while she had amazing slash line numbers including a .780 batting average and .810 on-base percentage.

Overall, the team hit .409 in the eight games and had close to a  .500 OBP (.494).

But it wasn’t just the offense that was strong—the pitching was solid with Addisyn Linton (2025), Grace Jones (2024) and Mia Brown (2024) set the tone in keeping opponents at bay

Addi, who we recently profiled here after she was selected as a Top 5 player in the 2025 Extra Elite 100, led the staff with 27 strikeouts while Grace had 13 K’s.

In the semi’s, Ross’s crew defeated another Mojo powerhouse in Michael Danley’s 2023 team.

How did that sit within the organization?

“Coach Danley and crew were gracious in defeat,” Ross said. “I used to coach that team before I dropped back and took the ‘06 group, so we are pretty cordial and support each other’s groups. He has gotten the better of me more than I have him. Them not having Ashtyn (Danley), a 2023 Florida State-committed pitcher) is a difference maker for sure.”

Runners-Up / National Club Team of the Week

* AZ Hotshots 18U Gold – George, coached by Brian George, shined at the NSA Elite Summer Fastpitch Series in Prescott, Arizona, going 6-0 and putting up crazy good offensive numbers including 85 home runs, 23 home runs (yes, that’s not a typo!) including a grand slam with long balls  distributed among nine players including five home runs from Kaitlyn Laudick, a Furman commit. The 15 players on the team batted a collective .523 with A.J. Murphy (2021 uncommitted) leading the way with an amazing .846 average.

AZ Hotshots 18U Gold – Georges had 23 home runs in one tournament!

The team, now nicknamed “The Bomb Squad 2020,” also was led by Lela Allen (2020, Seton Hall signee) who had three home runs over the weekend.

One of the highlights for the team: going back-to-back-to-back-to-back (four consecutive home runs) in one game. The games were part of the “Virtual Recruiting” live streaming produced by the Hotshots and the championship game can be watched via this Direct Link To YouTube.

* Team Smash 10:31, a 10U squad coached by BJ Simpson, went 7-0 and were the undefeated state champions at the Broussard, Louisiana USSSA La. State Championship, making it three state titles in a row for the program. The Smash scored 49 runs and only allowed four while turning the tourney’s only triple play and having three home runs hit including a grand slam.

* The Indiana Shockwaves 18U team coached by Walt Perry went 9-0-2 for the weekend including taking the finals at the Top Gun Invitational (Maverick Division) with a 7-2 win over Indiana Magic Gold – Rudd. Leadoff hitter Bailey Caylor (Southern Illinois commit) hit .576 for the 11 games; pitcher Claire Norred (Northern Illinois commit) posted a 5-0 record and a 0.47 ERA while fellow hurler Emma Summers went 4-0 and struck out 37 opposing batters in 28 innings.
