East Cobb Bullets 16U-Mayfield C Reese Hunter cracked the 2022 Extra Elite 100 last year, checking in at #97 and looks like a candidate to make the new 2022 Extra Elite 100, which Extra Inning Softball will start running on March 30.
The Roswell High, GA, star has been on a mission, honing her catching skills, hitting mechanics and working with top high school, college and professional pitchers such as Kelly Barnhill and Carley Hoover.
“I do a lot of different things to train for my softball season,” Hunter said. “I usually start my day with a 5 a.m. CrossFit class at NBK, so I can have a mix of cardio and weights. Then after school, I usually work on my hitting mechanics off the tee and some catching drills. Then before I go to bed I do a mini-abs workout. I also have catching lessons every Thursday and hitting lessons every other Wednesday.”
“Other days during the week,” the junior continues, “I work on my blocking and receiving by catching pitchers such as Kelly Barnhill, Carley Hoover and other awesome local college and high school pitchers at Champions Fastpitch (thanks to Stacy Tamborra!). Also, I do long toss whenever I can fit it in.”
Hunter’s EC Bullets teammates have been the beneficiary of all her hard work.
“Reese is a hard worker and is very demanding behind the plate,” 2022 OF Kyye Ricks said. “When I’m in the outfield, I can count on Reese to let me know what is going on. She is confident and I am really glad we are on the same team because she has a cannon for an arm and I would hate to try and steal on her, and I’m pretty fast. Reese is an awesome teammate. She is humble and enjoys the game with the same passion as I do. Reese is very encouraging and uplifting to her teammates. She has this cool personality and I enjoy being around her. Reese is by far one of the best catchers in our class. I love her and it’s always an honor to hit the field with her.”
EC Bullets-Mayfield 2023 RHP/SS McKaela Walker said Hunter’s framing skills set her apart from other catchers.
“I am pitcher and Reese frames the ball really well,” Walker said. “She has one of the strongest arms I’ve seen and she blocks the ball really well. Reese also has a great sense of humor which makes her my special teammate.”
EC Bullets-Mayfield 2022 2B Tyler Ellison appreciates Hunter as a teammate.
“Reese is a great teammate and a great friend,” Ellison said. “She is an aggressive ball player, catcher and always knows how to make you laugh when you’re down.”
