MARIBETH GORSUCH MAKES HISTORY FOR LSU

Senior RHP Maribeth Gorsuch made history for LSU, recording the first seven-inning perfect game in Tiger history to beat Belmont, 4-0, in the final game of the Purple and Gold Challenge on Saturday at Tiger Park.

The former Lewisville High, TX, superstar retired all 21 batters she faced, striking out a career-high 16 and handling three of the five fielding opportunities.

She upped her record to 3-1 with a 0.88 ERA on the season.

“I was super focused and locked in,” Gorsuch told The Advocate. “I went at them. I had confidence and it comes from my teammates.

“I was trying to stick to my routine, keep my breathing consistent. I was worried about the batter, one pitch at a time. In the bullpen warming up I felt good, felt like I was on.”

BRITO BOMBS

Oregon-bound Alyssa Brito is going to hit a lot of home runs for Pacifica High of Garden Grove, CA, and OC Batbusters-Stith. Brito kicked off her high school season by going 4-for-5 with two homers, five runs scored and five RBIs to lead the Mariners to 15-1 and 18-0 nonleague victories over El Modena High of Orange, CA, on Saturday at Pacifica High.

Tony Arduino, a former assistant coach for Pacifica’s baseball team, was making his head coaching debut for the Mariners as well.
