Coaches and players rave about uncommitted 2023 outfielder Cassidy McLellan’s blazing speed and aggressiveness on the basepaths, her amazing range in the outfield and her scary power-slapping abilities at the plate, but one former teammate summed up McLellan best.
“Yup,” Camille Mackedon said, “she’s a beast. I can start there.”
“All it took was for me to see a slapper hit a homer slapping,” said Mackedon, an uncommitted 2022 UT for East Cobb Bullets 04. “It’s the craziest thing I’ve ever seen. How about flash? Yup, flash because I’ve seen her beat out ground balls to second … not joking.”
“She’s also a vacuum in the outfield with crazy throws to home. But a couple of things I love even more is that she’s a team player, she cares for her teammates deeply, she’s competitive, but at the same time she’s very, very humble. She doesn’t have a big head. I will miss her so much, but I know she’s going to be an amazing D1 softball player. (There’s) none like her.”
No one covers more ground in the outfield than McLellan, according to former teammate Hannah Harper, an uncommitted 2022 LHP/1B for Firecrackers FL Gold.
“The thing that stands out about Cassidy on the field is her range in the outfield and her effort in going for every ball,” Harper said. “She is a great communicator and really takes charge over the other outfielders and middle infielders. On the offensive side, I have never seen a player more consistent in the batter’s box than Cassidy. She would always get on base and always had the highest batting average and on-base percentage on our whole team.”
“But I think what really makes her stand out is the way that she carries herself off the field. We all know she is a great player, but she is so humble, a great teammate, and a great friend. She doesn’t let her talent get to her head and she is genuinely one of my favorite people to be around.”
Former teammate Zoe Yeager, an uncommitted 2023 catcher for Lady Dukes-Lamar, said McLellan does everything possible to make her teammates better and Tennessee Mojo 04-Fisher, the reigning PGF 14U Premier national champion, was lucky to pick her up from East Cobb Bullets 04-CFL.
“I love Cassidy so much,” Yeager said. “She is a great teammate who wants her teammates to succeed just as bad as she wants to succeed. She is one of the hardest workers I have come to know. Cassidy is an amazing athlete who can play multiple positions. Her speed is crazy as well as her ability to track down any ball that comes her way. We would always tell her she’s gonna go somewhere big one day and I still believe it till this day. I’ve never met someone who can place the ball as well as her.”
“And when she gets on base, she takes any extra bases she can to get her team in scoring position. I remember playing on the USSSA All-American team with her back in 12U and she hit two grand slams back-to-back in the same game. She’s insane! The Mojo have definitely come across a big-time player and I’m so happy for where her future in softball is heading.”
