Extra Star Power: 2026 C/OF Torynn Slaughter… U-15 Women’s National Team Member “Still a Work in Progress!”

Freshman catcher/outfielder Torynn Slaughter from Phoenix, Ariz. is one of the top prospects in the Class of 2026 and, already, has impressive international experience playing for Team USA.

Earlier today, Extra Inning softball announced that the nomination process for the 2026 Extra Elite 100 is now open with the deadline to submit being Sunday, May 28 and the launch of the rankings to begin Monday, June 5.

Toryn helped the U-15 USA Women’s National Team win a championship in Peru last month and will travel with the team to Japan in early June.

One player who likely make the updated rankings Top 100 will be Torynn Slaughter, the lefty slugger from Phoenix who, last year, was ranked #31 in the 2026 Extra Elite 100 and has continued to impress including playing for the first-ever 15U USA Softball Women’s National Team that won the 2023 U-15 Women’s Pan American Championship in Lima, Peru last month.

And, next month (June 2-4), Torynn will travel with her USA teammates to Takasaki, Japan to compete in the U-15 UTSUGI Cup.

She’s one of the state leaders in Arizona Class 6A high school ball this spring and in the summer plays club ball—when not traveling with the USA Softball U15 team—for the Rogue Fastpitch Club organization.

In her player bio for the 2026 rankings, Randy Kaye, the head of the Rogue FC program, commented:

“Torynn has shown why she is considered one of the top 2026 prospects in the country by staying consistent at the plate and dominating behind it.”

Still, Torynn looks at herself as a “work in progress” but, showing her great self-awareness, says: “I have learned that I am capable of so much more than I think I am.”

We recently caught up with freshman to learn more about her past, present and future… here’s what she had to say…

In your eyes, what are some of the top honors and accomplishments you’ve achieved individually and with your teams?
Individually I have accomplished playing in the 12U All-American games in 2021 in Oklahoma City and I made the first ever U-15 USA Women’s Junior Olympic team. As for my team accomplishments I have been so blessed to play with the same core group of talented athletes since I was 10U and we, as a group, have always dominated!

What’s been your most memorable softball experience?
My most memorable softball experience was my first year of 14’s. The tournament was the Arizona Power 48 and I remember catching 10 games straight. We did end up winning the championship against a very good Beverly Bandits team.

What would you say are your strengths on the field?
I would say my major strength on the field is my overall presence behind the plate and in the batter’s box.

Have you set personal goals for yourself for this year?
My personal goals are to capitalize on pitchers’ mistakes because I won’t get pitched down the middle anymore.

Do you have any softball superstitions?
Yes, I do! One of them is a secret which cannot be said, but others I can: for example, I cannot step on the foul lines; I have to do my makeup, hair and uniform in a specific order; I can’t wear my sunglasses upside down on my visor; in the dugout, my batting helmet has to be in front of my catching helmet and it cannot be in the middle of the bench.

Life, according to Torynn, is made too complicated sometimes. What works well for her: “See ball, hit ball (usually pretty hard and far!).”

What would you say is your philosophy in life?
“Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.”

If you had to describe yourself in one word, what would it be on-field? Off the field?
I think I’m pretty “chill: on and off the field.

What worries you most about what classmates your age are facing in the future?
For me, it’s social media. Social media influences teenagers these days in the wrong ways. Some ways including dropping out of school and not getting an education.
