Lady Dukes-Lamar standout Brijana “Breezy” Burnett’s teammates talk about her incredible speed, powerful bat and defensive skills in the outfield.
Lady Dukes coach James Lamar calls the uncommitted 2020 outfielder the “backbone of my team and the unquestioned leader.”
Breezy helped her Florida high school team win a state championship this year and also helped her club team finish tied for 17th at PGF Nationals.
“Breezy is a major part of the Lady Dukes,” the Duke-committed 2022 2B/OF Allyiah Swiney said. “She is one of the captains of the outfield and her energy that she brings to the team helps us all stay up and keeps us all going. And she brings a big stick, but has a lot of speed.”
The former competitive dancer has also impressed her teammates with her boundless energy and passion for softball.
“Breezy is everything and more to the Lady Dukes,” uncommitted 2022 C/1B/3B Lilly Davis said. “She is not just one of our friends … she is our sister. Breezy brings so much energy and has so much passion for the game of softball. Something that makes her unique is she is a leader on the field and (she’s) always doing her job when she is out there.”
The amateur oboe player’s positive energy is contagious.
“She brings so much passion to our team,” Florida-committed 2024 1B/3B Layla Lamar said. “Whenever one of us is struggling she is right there to pick us up. You can never tell if she is having a bad day (because) she always has positive ENERGY! And most importantly she’s just an absolute beast on the field. She’s super fast and scrappy and her swing is beautiful. But overall I look at her as my sister and a very important key to our team.”
