Fall Represents Start of Softball Season in Five States

Many high school softball players use the fall as a time to condition, practice and hone their skills in preparation for the upcoming spring season.

In Oklahoma, Georgia, Missouri, Nebraska and Colorado the fall represents softball season for those players.

Teams in the state of Oklahoma could begin playing games on Aug. 7, or on the first day of school.

Postseason play kicks off in September and concludes in October with state champions being crowned across seven classifications (B-6A).

Oklahoma also conducts a spring season for slow pitch softball at the high school level.

Georgia teams could begin practice on July 31 and competition could commence on Aug. 4.

Region champions are determined by the middle of October and the state championship will be played on Oct. 25-28 in Columbus, Ga.

The state of Georgia crowned its first fastpitch state champion in 1994 and currently sponsors state championships in eight classifications (A-Division II – 7A).

Like the state of Oklahoma, Georgia also conducts a spring slow pitch season.

In Missouri, softball is played in both the fall and the spring with state champions being determined during each playing season.

In the fall, five state championships are contested and two in the spring.

Aug. 25 marked the first permissible competition date for fall softball and postseason play beings in early October.

The Missouri state championship will be held Oct. 26-28 in Springfield, Mo.

Nebraska began its season on Aug. 17 and will conclude with state champions being crowned across three divisions in October in Omaha, Neb.

The state of Nebraska began holding softball state championships in 1993.

The Colorado High School Activities Association permitted teams to begin practice on Aug. 7 with a first allowable competition date of Aug. 10.

The state tournament championship round is held Oct. 20-21 in Aurora, Colo., with champions being determined in 3A, 4A and 5A classifications.
