I Committed: 2024 Pitcher Macey Cintron… Her Amazing Career Continues with Verbal to Duke, Competition in the Pan Am Games

Macey Cintron celebrates after striking out the final batter to win a second straight high school state title for her Wesleyan School in Peachtree Corners, Georgia.

One of the most accomplished young softball players we’ve covered over the last decade has been Macey Cintron, the Class of 2024 pitcher who has done everything from win a pair of Georgia high school state titles to playing for Team Puerto Rico in the Pan American Women’s Championship which just concluded over the weekend.

No doubt where this top 2024 Extra Elite 100 recruit is headed!

Macey, who got the fun nickname of “Megatron” in her younger days because of her height (5-foot-9 at age 13) and imposing figure when she stepped on the mound, showed great potential and promise with a high 60’s fastball and a tough curve and change-up.

Though barely a teenage back then, she was invited to play for the Puerto Rican National Team in the U-19 World Cup and she’s continued to impress over the years.

But the success hasn’t come without its share of trials, too.

Macey suffered through back issues two years ago but pushed through that to compete for the Puerto Rican U-19 team which took third in the Softball World Cup held in Peru.

And, just over the weekend, the outstanding high school junior at Wesleyan (Peachtree Corners, Ga.) played for Puerto Rico in the Pan American Women’s Championship in Guatemala, helping the team finish 4th and, more importantly, qualify to play for the chance to win a World Title.

Her Team PUR will have the chance to compete against squads from the USA, Canada, Cuba, Venezuela, Netherlands, Great Britain and Italy in the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup next summer in the Group Stage in Italy, Spain and Ireland and then the Final Stage in 2024 to be held in Italy.

Talk about when you committed to Duke…
I announced my commitment on September 27, 2022… I fell in love with Duke when I saw the school and my favorite part is the friendly and open environment that the team creates.

What was a key point or two that helped you realize you wanted to be a Blue Devil?
At the end of the day, I value my education the most and I can have the best of both worlds—academics and athletics—at Duke. I loved the people there and how many resources there are not only for athletics but for academics as well.

What did the college coaches recruiting you say they liked most about your play on the field?
The coaches said they not only love the player I am on the field, but they love who I am as a person off the field and that makes me feel very special.

The Pan American Women’s Championship this past weekend… playing for Team Puerto Rico against other top countries, what was that like:
My experience in the Pan Am games was amazing! I am so grateful for the opportunity to have represented Puerto Rico and I am so proud of my team and how hard we worked to qualify for the World Cup coming up this summer.

What were your emotions heading into the Pan Am Games knowing you’d be facing, literally, the top softball players in the world?
There aren’t enough words to describe how excited I was for this opportunity! I have played in the past on the Junior National team, but this was my first time on the Senior team. I got on the Junior team with a recommendation from Karla Claudio when she was a volunteer assistant at the Univ. of Florida. She currently plays on the women’s team, and she now is an assistant coach at South Florida. The Jr. Puerto Rican coaches recommended her for the Women’s team.
