I Committed: Kaylee Wilfong to Join Embry Riddle Eagles

Kaylee Wilfong will play softball and study Business in Aviation at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.

Kaylee Wilfong was very meticulous when it came to deciding where to spend the next four years—and it paid off.

The catcher for the SoCal Athletics South Bay hails from Cypress, California and will graduate next spring from Los Alamitos High School.

“I am a first-generation student,” shared the Embry Riddle Aeronautical University—Prescott commit. “My goal has always been to attend a four-year university where I can pursue my dream of playing college softball while also earning a Business in Aviation degree.”

With a perfect 4.0 GPA, Kaylee shows extreme potential to be successful on the field and in the classroom at Embry Riddle—a daunting feat for players attending academically rigorous universities while simultaneously practicing and competing at a high level.

Kaylee took the initiative to connect with the coaching staff earlier this year after performing research on the university and its softball program, which was named the Cal Pac Champions the prior season, and were en route to defending their title.

She shared her recruitment information with Coach Nicole Hennessey and expressed clear interest in ERAU’s softball program.

The coach responded right away.

“After that, things progressed very quickly between phone calls, going to watch the team play when they travelled to California and a visit to the campus in March which made all the difference,” Kaylee recalled.

“While visiting the campus, I noticed that the weather in Prescott was completely different from the rest of Arizona. I got to see firsthand the school’s advanced technology, learned more about their Business Aviation degree, and most thrilling, I was able to take part in two practice sessions with the team.”

Kaylee was very fond of how Coach Hennessey ran the program and interacted with the players.

“Her coaching philosophy focuses on ensuring that each of her players are well-rounded adults by the time they graduate and enter the real world,” said Kaylee on the topic of her future coach. “By the time the visit was over, I had an offer to play for the team and I knew that verbally committing to this school was the right choice for me.”

She is currently going through the application process and is eagerly awaiting her acceptance letter. Kaylee looks forward to experiencing the “campus life” and excelling an an environment that is geared towards students interested in studying aviation.
