Maisi Sigler had a slow recruitment process at first.
It wasn’t until she joined Tammy Vermeulen’s D1Vision 16U National team in the summer of her junior year that she was introduced to all of the options she had available to her as a result of her exceptional talent at the plate.
“I struggled with finding the right fit for me, until I joined D1Vision,” commented Maisi. “Coach Tammy guided me step by step through the process and gave me the confidence in myself that I needed to accomplish great things.”
When the Atlanta Legacy showcase arrived, Maisi was on the radar of several top programs who had connected with Coach Vermeulen for more information on the first-baseman.
When she heard that West Point was interested, however, Maisi could only see herself continuing her career with one program.
“I remember it really well,” recalls Maisi of first hearing about the opportunity. “I was at Panera doing summer homework for my AP Literature class and I got a text from my coach saying, ‘Would you be interested in the Army?’ I was like, ‘Oh my gosh???? Yes!!!”

A phone call was set up soon after with Army’s assistant coach, Jessica Gorman. After the conversation, Maisi felt like all of the stars were finally aligning. She visited the campus and attended a camp a few weeks after the initial phone call.
“It was breathtaking. It just felt right. I played on their clay and started to feel relief,” shared Maisi. “I have wanted to serve in the military for as long as I remember, and I am so glad that I am able to accomplish my dream of serving while also playing Division I softball.”
A week later, Maisi received a text from head coach Jen Consaul in which an offer was enclosed. Maisi accepted, and thus began the application process for West Point.
Since committing, Maisi has been in communication with Army’s coaching staff on how to improve her performance during her final seasons with D1Vision.
Maisi attributes a large portion of her success thus far to her relationship with Coach Sai Daniels, who has been instrumental in developing her as both a player and a person.

“My head coach, Sai Daniels, guided me closer to God throughout this season, and I also think that is a big part in why I have committed,” explained Maisi. “I had been going through a slump for most of the season, but Coach Sai helped me realize that I couldn’t control everything around me. She taught me how to ‘Let go and let God,’ which helped tremendously. As my faith grew stronger, so did my game. I was hitting more consistently, and I had a newfound sense of self-confidence in myself.”
Maisi will graduate from the Academy of Holy Names in Tampa Bay, Florida in the spring of 2024. She has been an avid coder since the sixth grade and plans to turn this passion into a career by majoring in Computer Science at the United States Military Academy—Army West Point.
