For the Class of 2021, this Sunday will begin what could be a magical or maddening time.
It’s the first day college coaches can contact the current juniors and there’s a lot of unknowns on how this will play out: will it be the “Wild Wild West,” as some have said it will be with coaches calling or texting prospect recruits right at midnight on Sept. 1?
Or will it be just business as usual with coaches reaching out as their schedules allow?
Erin Sykes, National Director at Collegiate Sports Advocates, has had an interesting perspective as she works with everyone in the process: college coaches, travel ball coaches, players and parents.
Here’s her two cents on what she thinks will happen this weekend…
*****
On the brink of what most aspiring collegiate softball players would consider the biggest day of the year (aside from NLI Signing Day), September 1st has become the most anticipated day for many athletes and their parents.
You can imagine players will be holding on to their cell phones a little tighter than normal this Sunday, perhaps a little—or a lot—on edge as prospective student-athletes in the Class of 2021 anxiously wait for some form of communication from the college coaches they long to hear from.
But what will that day really be like?
The only comparison would be to look back at the Class of 2020 and base this year’s predictions off the information shared from a year ago.
I traverse the nation, talking to college coaches, travel coaches, players and family members and the information that I’m sharing is just my culmination of what I’ve amassed myself.
