Lainie Keefer, a 2028 MIF/C/OF/UT for Indiana Dreams 09, was invited to the USSSA Select 30 National Training Camp this weekend at Space Coast in Florida and she recently agreed to blog about her experience for Extra Inning Softball.
Here’s her blog from Day 3, Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023.

Today was the Day 3 of the USSSA Select 30 (National) Training Camp! We started off the day with Delaney Spaulding in the advanced hitting classroom session. We learned about how important it is to have the same pre-pitch routine every time.
Next, we went to speed and agility with Gionna DiSalvatore and worked on being explosive with several different exercises.
Then we had “A Day in the Life of a College Athlete” with Abbey Cheek. I asked how old she was when she knew for sure that softball is what she wanted to play in college. She said that she didn’t know that she wanted to play D1 softball until she started getting offers, and she also played travel volleyball. I also got the chance to have a one-on-one conversation with her and asked about how to get better at hitting, but more specifically about increasing exit velocity and bat speed. She gave me advice on a couple different things to work on every day at home.
We then went to our next classroom session, weights with Jailyn Ford. We did planks, air squats and back stretches. During the session, she was giving examples of several exercises we could do to get faster and stronger. For our final classroom session, we talked about nutrition and how important it is to properly fuel your body.
After our lunch break, I had two games. We won the first one and had a close game, but lost the second one. I was able to help my team today at shortstop, left field and right field as well as driving in a couple of runs and laying down a bunt to move some runners. I can’t wait to get back on the field tomorrow morning for our 8 a.m. game!
