You can’t deny the talent.
Katie King is an 18-year-old senior who attends Bremen High School located in Bremen, Georgia and we were first made aware of her Sunday morning when someone messaged us saying, “We need to make this kid famous!” and linked the video of her singing her original song called “18 & Quarantine.”
We knew instantly this had to be shared publicly, especially to, and for, those in the Class of 2020.
Even pre-Coronavirus, you wouldn’t find Katie on the softball fields—or in any athletic competition, for that matter—but rather in the choir and music rooms at her school where she has honed her vast musical talents to an impressive degree.
The singer-songwriter has written a beautiful and poignant song that perfectly summarizes the incomplete year her senior classmates and she have been forced to deal with this spring.
“Katie’s inspiration for her song came from the realization that she is not the only one going through this,” says her mother, Elizabeth King, “and she wanted to share a message that inspired all seniors going through the same thing as her.”
A four-year participant in Bremen High’s spring musicals, she tried out for the local community theater last summer and landed the lead female role of Sandy in “Grease.”
Katie has also sung the National Anthem at her school’s Veteran’s Day program the last two years and is so gifted musically that she was offered a music scholarship to attend the local university, West Georgia.
She was also was offered a scholarship to Shorter University in Rome, Georgia, but wasn’t able to visit the campus prior to the onset of COVID-19.
“We are hoping to visit there very soon and she will make her decision for sure of where she will attend between those two universities,” says the musician’s mother.
Katie is planning on majoring in Music Education with a focus on Vocal. Her goal in life, says her mother, “is to spread music and inspiration in other’s lives. Music has been the main source of expression in her life.”
“Katie wanted this song to inspire other seniors to take their moment to be sad or mad that their senior year was cut short, but then realize life goes on and to let this experience serve as a lesson to never take things for granted and help to make them stronger as individuals,” says the singer’s proud mom.
“Katie says she had days when she would have a long rehearsal and she would complain sometimes that she was tired or just wanted to come home, she now knows she should have treasured each moment she had. She hopes others take the same lesson out of this hardship.”
Here is the video of Katie singing her song, recorded Sunday, April 26, 2020, with lyrics posted below…
18 & Quarantine
Written by Katie King (2020)
It’s our senior year
I shed a tear
Had it all planned out
Got our caps and our gowns
We were ready for prom
Until we got that call
12 years of our lives
How they flew by
It seems like last year
Our futures were clear
But life is different now that I’m
18 & Quarantine
Wasn’t how it all was supposed to be
Gotta plan for college
We have to move on
Cause staying 6 feet, ruined our high school dreams
We never had to fear that our
Big day would appear
We were living our lives
Without knowing the price
Complained about waking up early
We were all in a hurry
Not taking the time
To really say goodbye
But life is different now that I’m
18 & Quarantine
Wasn’t how it all was supposed to be
Gotta plan for college
We have to move on cause
Cause staying 6 feet, ruined our high school dreams
When it’s all over
We’ll stand close to each other
And remember the day
it was taken away
But when you’re
18 & Quarantine
You learn that life can go by and leave you wondering why
So you gotta hold on
To each little moment
And have no regrets just live life it’s best
