Recruiting Spotlight: “Won’t Stop Workout Warrior” Alexis (Axe) Milanowski Commits to Auburn

Alexis “Axe” Milanowski will a strong resume of accomplishments to the SEC along with an amazing work ethic.

Earlier today, 2022 infielder Alexis “Axe” Milanoski announced via Twitter that she had committed to Auburn.

We can’t say that we were surprised—not in the fact she committed to the Tigers, but that she’s going to a high-caliber conference like the SEC.

Alexis has been one of our best examples of “Won’t Stop Workout Warriors;” those athletes who drive themselves to their limits to be the best they can be… and Axes—as we’ve known for a while—is pretty darn good.

The talented hitter/infielder made the 2022 Extra Elite 100 released this spring when we wrote of her:

“Alexis is a standout defensive player who is a corner infielder and a smooth catcher for the (Georgia) Impact team. She plays at Houston Academy (Dothan, Alabama) and was leading the state in all divisions with 11 home runs before the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 virus. In her fourth year of being a starter for her high school team, she has been a two-time USA Select All-American and was named the MVP of the 2022 class at the All-American Games held in Orlando in January 2019. In late December of 2019, Alexis was named a Select 30 All-American. She’s a hard-wording defender with plus offensive mechanics and is a strong power potential player.”

And this summer she was honored as an All-Summer Team selection at 16U after she batted .508 with a .892 slugging percentage, eight doubles, one triple, five homers and 26 RBIs.

All those accomplishments are great, but it’s her passionate work(out) ethic that really sold us on this amazing athlete.

We’re not the only ones, either: in August, it was announced Axexis was being elevated to Patrick Lewis’ 18U Georgia Impact team, one of the top club teams and organizations in the country.

Bailey with Georgia Impact coaches Lincoln Martin (left) and Patrick Lewis with graduated standout Bailey Dowling, who played for Team USA and is now at Alabama.

“We are excited to move Axe to our team,” Lewis told Extra Inning Softball today. Her work ethic is off the charts and fits our culture and what we require from our players perfectly. She is going to bring a strong bat into our line-up and help replace some seniors that we lost. We’re also excited to work with her defensively on the corners.”

Lincoln Martin, an assistant on the Impact and one of the most reputable hitting instructors in the country, added: “Axe is a middle-of-the-order bat with gap power. The swing works with a good feel for timing and has depth and direction that should allow her to hit for average and power. (Axe has a ) great work ethic and a competitive spirit! She’s also a solid corner defender.”

All those skills were noticed by college coaches and on Sept. 1, 2020—the first day college coaches could contact current juniors, Axe was kept busy.

“It’s as awesome as I had dreamed it would be!” Milanowski told Extra Inning Softball via Twitter on Sept. 2. “I received several text and emails from SEC, ACC, and Big East conferences at midnight and I got a call from an SEC program at midnight!”

“It’s so great to finally get to talk to the coaches and see who is really interested in me!” she added. “ I’ve been working so hard for this time and to see it paying off is indescribable!! Now it’s time to enjoy the process and keep grinding!”

To show the type of player off the field she is also, we go back to a story we did on January 2, 2020 when we asked players about their New Year’s resolutions (and this, obviously, is way before we knew what the terms “Coronavirus” and “COVID-19” would come to mean this year)… here’s what Axe had to say:

“My New Year’s Resolution for 2020 is to be a leader on and off the field.  I want to positively help others through my hard work at school, during my Georgia Impact season and my varsity high school season.  We have a lot of younger players at school and several new teammates on Impact that I feel I can help be a big part while building our teams. Everyone needs a Big Sister to encourage them!”

Below is an Extra Star Power feature we did in January of Axe which shines even more light on this special student-athle that Mickey Dean and the Tigers will be bringing in soon… but first, the tweet that Axe sent out earlier today announcing where she’d be playing her college ball:

Extra Star Power: Select 30 All-American Alexis Milanowski… Nothing Gets by This “Brick Wall!”

Originally published Jan. 25, 2020 on Extra Inning Softball

Auburn-committed pitcher Emmah Rolfe says of catcher Alexis Milanowski: ““I consider it a true honor and blessing to be Alexis’ teammate.”

Alexis Milanowski prefers to be driven even though she has a driver’s permit, but few can match her drive to play softball at the highest level.

The former cheerleader took up softball at 9-years-old, fell in love with the sport and she’s been playing in the dirt ever since.

Alexis plays the infield the way she does behind the plate: aggressively!

“I never cheered again,” said Milanowski, known as “Axe” to her teammates, who was named a USSSA Select 30 All-American after her stellar effort at the Select 30 National Training Camp over the New Year break.

Milanowski’s teammates say her work ethic is unmatched and they can depend on her to deliver in clutch situations.

“Alexis is the hardest worker I know,” uncommitted 2022 OF Maia Townsend said. “She’s always the first on and off the field and her work ethic is unmatched. On the field, I know she always has my back. Nothing gets by her. She’s like a brick wall. And when she’s hitting, I know that if I don’t get on, Alexis will. She’s extremely positive. I’ve played with her for years and she’s overall just one the best players and person I know.”

Milanowski batted .423 with 12 doubles, four triples, four homers, 45 runs scored, 18 stolen bases and 29 RBIs in 38 games for Houston Academy of Dothan, AL, as a freshman last season. Her hard work and hustle are infectious to her teammates.

Emmah Rolfe

“She is one of the most dedicated and hard-working athletes I have ever had the privilege to play with,” Auburn-committed 2022 P Emmah Rolfe said. “She inspires me and everyone on the team to perform at their best and give their all because that is how she approaches the game every time she is on the field.”

“I consider it a true honor and blessing to be Alexis’ teammate and look for her to do many great things in the sport of softball for years to come,” Rolfe continues. “Any team would be lucky to have such a human being like her to share in this experience called softball, but fortunately for the Georgia Impact 04 Jeffreys/Townsend team we get to claim her as family.”
