Recruiting: Top Players Continue to Say… “I Committed!” (And Here’s One Headed to the Pac-12!)

Ashleigh Mejia was contacted by Arizona State’s coaching staff on Sept. 1 and her visit to the Pac-12 school convinced her she should be a Sun Devil!

The Fall in fastpitch means high school play in some states with most, however, active in club competition across the country.

It’s also another very important time of year for older softballers: Recruiting Season!

If you (or someone you know) has recently decided where her college ball will be played, let us know via our I Committed page which can found under the “Contact” dropdown at the top right of the Extra Inning Softball home page…

Click HERE to go directly to it also (scroll down the page)!

We also honor new commits in our The Last Inning reports every weekday so check those out too as, sometimes, Carlos Arias will have upwards of 20 new verbals!

Below is one example of a talented athlete, junior Ashleigh Mejia, “telling her story” via our I Committed platform, including sending in some pretty impressive photos too. The So Cal standout–ranked in the Top 35 of the 2024 Extra Elite 100–attends Santiago (Corona, Calif.) High where she batted over .400 and had 10 home runs. An impressive defender also, Ashleigh was selected 1st Team All-Big VIII, 1st Team All-CIF, and 2nd Team All State (by Cal-Hi Sports).

We’d love for anyone who commits–and wants to share their happy news as well–to follow Ashleigh’s lead below….

Tell Us Your Story
I knew when I started playing softball at the age of 8 years old, I wanted to play college softball in the Pac-12 conference.

Ashleigh on her official visit to ASU.

The recruiting process was a great experience but was at times stressful. I knew playing for Coach Ken Briggs’ program that I would get an opportunity to play in front of multiple college coaches. The fact that both Coach Ken and Roseann Briggs are both well respected in the softball community and we have a roster loaded with talent our games were always packed with coaches who were excited to watch our team play.

Going into September 1st I kind of had an idea of who might reach out to me, but you can never be too sure until it happens.

At 12:01 am, my first phone call came in and then seven or eight text messages came in from schools that I had high interest in. One of them happened to be Arizona State.

The coaching staff set up a Zoom call with me and my parents later that day. I was excited for the opportunity to finally interact with Coach (Megan) Bartlett and her staff. they offered me the opportunity to become part of the ASU family.

I knew in my heart that’s where I want to go but I wanted to take a visit to be around the coaching staff and players. After minutes of being around everyone in the program I knew that was where I belonged.

I told my host All-American outfielder Yanni Acuna that I was going to commit to the program the next morning and I did!

It was a very emotional moment for my family and it was great to see the excitement from Coach Bartlett and Coach (Jimmy) Kolaitis. I am grateful that my journey has led me to the ASU softball program and I am very excited to wear the Maroon and Gold in 2024.

FORKS UP!!
